I have reviewed you site and knowledge base, etc., but am a novice and here is what I want to do: capture a video image from a monitor, using a camera or other kind of device. Then send it to my website for visitors to view.

From your site, I gather I need the vMix software, a camera or other capture device (encoder?), along with a pci board. From there I am lost. What else (if anything) would be necessary to complete a connection to my site, and stream the images? How is it received on the other end and displayed? What pieces are necessary on the web site?

As Guillaume alludes to, it is somewhat unclear as to what your specific need for vMix and/or a camera is.
What is the nature of the "monitor" and the "image" you want to capture?
You may be able to capture it directly without a camera, please elaborate a little more if you can.

Sorry ICE, I was replying to you, but incorrectly used Guillaume's name.

The statement below assumes you dont want to live stream video..... just periodic images or video.

This is doable with vmix - in fact I have done it before.

First, setup vmix to do a screen capture (snapshot) with a key -- note the directory that it saves in.
Second download sharex (some awesome software) https://getsharex.com/
In sharex select file uploader -- probably for you ftp.
In sharex have it monitor "watch" a folder and upload to specified location - everytime there is a new snapshot taken it will upload.

If you need to do the snapshot on a regular basis, just set up a webpage that refreshes at a given interval that calls the snapshot through the vMix web api.

Now if it is video you are after, you could do the same-- just with record and stop record.


I use this to auto upload a snapshot to twitter.

It works very well.

As the guys have said above you can do a live screen video capture of what's on ur monitor and stream that to the web. There's a screen grabber within vmix or you could use an alternative produced by newtek called ndi scan converter. Either one will allow vmix to see ur monitor screen ( either in its entirety, a captured area, or an individual window) as a video source, just like a camera, webcam etc.

Seems to me if you only need 1 frame per 30 seconds. You might be better just automating a screen capture to JPEG or PNG file, then uploading via FTP on a schedule.

ShareX seems to capture and upload to many places on the Internet, it's open source, nothing short of amazing what it seems to be able to do. I've never seen so many options on a screen capture program before.

You can of course use Vmix, but seems like the most complex tool for a relatively simple job. Kind of like driving a Lamborghini to the shops to get a loaf of bread. Sure do that if you wish :)
