What kind of hardware do I need with vMix to capture and send images to web site?

I have reviewed you site and knowledge base, etc., but am a novice and here is what I want to do: capture a video image from a monitor, using a camera or other kind of device. Then send it to my website for visitors to view.
From your site, I gather I need the vMix software, a camera or other capture device (encoder?), along with a pci board. From there I am lost. What else (if anything) would be necessary to complete a connection to my site, and stream the images? How is it received on the other end and displayed? What pieces are necessary on the web site?
I would appreciate any assistance or suggestions. Thanks, W. Kowal

Hi! if you only want to do what you said, you definitely don't need vMix. vMix is a live video production software for streaming. I understood you are looking for a solution allowing to use a webcam and transfer periodically the image to a website. vMix is not doing this. Check these links to get into the right direction: http://www.camsecure.co.uk/Camsecure_FTP.htmlhttp://www.yawcam.com/http://www.pysoft.com/activewebcammainpage.htmetc... There are many more softwares doing this, though we used to do this long time ago. Here are the keywords I used to find these links in Google "webcam software with ftp upload" Hope this helps Guillaume

@ W Kowal
As Guillaume alludes to, it is somewhat unclear as to what your specific need for vMix and/or a camera is. What is the nature of the "monitor" and the "image" you want to capture? You may be able to capture it directly without a camera, please elaborate a little more if you can.

Thanks Guillaume, yes a camera may not be the best solution, but it is the only way I know of. Here are more details, I have a stock trading platform which displays charts and indicators on a Windows PC with monitor (1920x1080). I want to push this feed to my website and thus enable the public or clients to view it. Options that would be nice would be to have a free feed, and another with premium content, restricted to members. I assumed there were other ways to capture the screen other than a camera, but as I said, I am a novice and do not understand how it is done. Thanks for reaching out, and if you have suggestions, please respond. Bill

Oh it's much clearer now. Btw the whole thing is not as simple as you might expect. vMix allows you to do a screen capture on a remote computer http://www.vmix.com/help...workDeviceInterface.htmlWith this set, you can now stream to a streaming platform like youtube for instance http://www.vmix.com/help19/Streaming.htmlThen you can embed youtube's player with your video on your website. This is the basic explanation of the main steps. Hope this helps... Guillaume

The statement below assumes you dont want to live stream video..... just periodic images or video. This is doable with vmix - in fact I have done it before. First, setup vmix to do a screen capture (snapshot) with a key -- note the directory that it saves in. Second download sharex (some awesome software) https://getsharex.com/In sharex select file uploader -- probably for you ftp. In sharex have it monitor "watch" a folder and upload to specified location - everytime there is a new snapshot taken it will upload. If you need to do the snapshot on a regular basis, just set up a webpage that refreshes at a given interval that calls the snapshot through the vMix web api. Now if it is video you are after, you could do the same-- just with record and stop record. I use this to auto upload a snapshot to twitter. It works very well.

Thanks, KJones and others who have made suggestions to me. Things are now coming into focus and it seems to me that a CCTV setup, or vMix would work in my situation.
However, one thing is still a question in my mind:
Since I want to run the stream 24/7 (but not continuous; instead using clips every 30 seconds or more), it seems a waste of resources to have a monitor and camera running around the clock. Therefore, is there a capture device (pci card, encoder, or?) that could be used in place of the monitor/cam combination? Appreciate any suggestions. Bill

As the guys have said above you can do a live screen video capture of what's on ur monitor and stream that to the web. There's a screen grabber within vmix or you could use an alternative produced by newtek called ndi scan converter. Either one will allow vmix to see ur monitor screen ( either in its entirety, a captured area, or an individual window) as a video source, just like a camera, webcam etc.

You can do periodic streams using vMix builtin scripting feature or using a third party software like vMixUTC (which can be found in this forum)
However I have the feeling that going the streaming way is not the best. I'm pretty sure your stock trading platform which displays charts and indicators is developed on databases and scripting languages which can be used for the web aswell as your LAN. Why don't you talk to your IT department to see if they can develop something in order to feed your website?

Seems to me if you only need 1 frame per 30 seconds. You might be better just automating a screen capture to JPEG or PNG file, then uploading via FTP on a schedule. Search for "screen capture to ftp" on google It found this after about 3 other solutions: https://getsharex.com/ ShareX seems to capture and upload to many places on the Internet, it's open source, nothing short of amazing what it seems to be able to do. I've never seen so many options on a screen capture program before. You can of course use Vmix, but seems like the most complex tool for a relatively simple job. Kind of like driving a Lamborghini to the shops to get a loaf of bread. Sure do that if you wish :) Sorry, just saw someone already recommended getsharex as I read more responses.
