Need Help with Audio & Headphones Audio Output

I have run into an audio issue that I cannot figure out. Here's the scenario...

i7 PC in midtower case with Gigabyte Z270 Motherboard. Audio jacks are 1) Center/Subwoofer Speaker Out, 2) Rear Speaker Out, 3) Line In/Mic In, 4) Line Out, 5) Headphone. All drivers are up to date.

vMix 19.0.0.53 with Settings/Audio Output/Headphone assigned to the #2 Rear Speaker Out. A set of headphones are connected to that speaker jack.

But no audio can be heard in headphones attached to that speaker jack. When tested with Windows Sound, we hear a tone in the headphones so we know the jack and the headphones are working. When a different Windows Audio Device is assigned to the vMix Headphones Audio Output (the HDMI to a TV), we hear audio through that device.

But no audio to the Headphones attached to the Speaker Jack.

I feel like there's something really simple I'm missing. Any ideas? Thanks.

In Windows audio setup you have to set it to 5.1 mode. In vMix set it to the mainboard audio and try the channels 3+4 or 5+6. 1+2 should be the line out jack.

Edit: Just checked the vMix documentation and it should be on 5+6.

Great idea, but did not fix our problem.

Other ideas?

Tom, I hate to ask you this but it has to be asked...
Is the "Headphone" pot turned up in vMix?
Is it also safe to assume that the vMix audio Output is enabled in the Windows "Volume Mixer" for that output (right click windows speaker icon)?

BTW, I'm really not fond of (or at least have a hard time mastering) the windows audio interface, there are just too many windows and options to navigate IMHO.

Close vMix, go into the sound control panel and select your sound card, in the playback tab and click on properties, click on the levels tab and make sure all the levels are turned up then re-open vMix to see if all the sound is working.

This may not be what you're after, but it's something that I can offer from experience. All-in-one solutions are seldom best in class in all their various facets. I use vMix audio in parallel with VoiceMeeter, to deliver a more capable audio solution. This is largely driven by the fact that I use video conference tools that demand bidirectional audio everywhere. Audio handling in vMix is rudimentary.

By using virtual audio devices I find that I can pass audio back and forth between difference sources/destinations on the same PC.

The trick is to reserve the Windows default playback device as purely a monitoring tap.

In a past life this was like the facility router, or the jack field beside the mixing console.

I haven't yet experimented with DANTE, but I'd like to. That would extend the arrangement to accommodate signals to/from network sources.

ANy change if you select default playback device? (Assuming you have this jack set as default playback).

Oh and these problems happen all the time with VAC. Are you using that?
