I'm running Ableton Live 9 audio software, playing audio thru it VST synth and a slew of audio. Ableton is awesome on it's own, Vmix is awesome... but for some reason, when I click on Vmix as the active window to make changes, my audio goes haywire.

To be honest, I do have a complicated setup (MOTU 828 mkii firewire audio interface, multiple cameras etc)... but it drives me crazy because sometimes the software works just fine even when active... then I go to adjust something and vmix becomes my audio's nemesis. I change the fps from 30 to 60, or restart... and maybe this time it's ok again, maybe not.

I can repeat and reset the issue, but just can't put my finger on one specific setting or parameter that makes it reliable.

I've tried 30fps, 60fps, different audio options, internal mixer on and off, heck I think i've checked on and off every box one by one to see if I could isolate it. I even recently upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10 (both 64 bit) to see if it was a driver issue of some sort that might need updating.

Help! I love vmix, and would love to abandon both xsplit and obs for my partnered twitch program... the MIDI shortcuts alone are worth $300 to me, but I need to get this resolved before I can stream with confidence.

Thanks!

CKurtis

Hi

give us more details and useful info

hardware specs?
asio?
number and type of cameras?
number of usb devices?
etc...

we are not magicians!

ZT systems computer
i7-2600 @3.4
16gb ram
Windows 10 Home (but it did it on Windows 7 home too)

Motu asio (multi channel) firewire adapter 828 mk ii (it's 18 in and 10 out I believe)

3 logitech 920's and 1 922. (the problems happen even if I have a completely empty load of vmix, no cameras, scenes, inputs)

a wireless microsoft keyboard mouse combo, as well as an attached logitech keyboard and trackball. Various musical keyboards also connected via usb.

Nvidia GeForce GT 740 sc display (4 gig) adapter with a samsung U28E510 at 2560 x 1440, and a Seki se42um tv running at 4K

Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB Drive

Let me know what other information you need. I know you aren't magicians, I just didn't know where to start. =o)

I ran a program called latencyMon. runs fine if the vmix window isn't selected. After selected it sputters... this is the output from it. I'm not sure if this is helpful at all?

Thanks again,

Chris

CONCLUSION
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.
LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for 0:01:19 (h:mm:ss) on all processors.

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. increase your latency value for asio... for a start... and check

your graphics card is not ideal for vMix but I'm pretty sure your issue is mainly asio related

high latency makes it difficult for me to play live keyboards.

the latency is fine, even when I'm changing all kinds of scenes and cameras via midi hotkeys, not a glitch

once I choose vmix as the active window... no amount of buffers helps. I've done great with it set as low as 64 with no glitches with vmix not chosen, and as high as 1024 with glitches when vmix is chosen.

I'll try another graphics card if you think that's the issue... just seems strange that it's only when it's an active chosen window. no other programs or windows open have this effect.

I understood what your problem is... But the cause is not vMix, it's your audio setup.
Quote:

I did not ask to go to high latency, but to increase it for a few ms. I'm a guitarist playing on asio drivers, I know the effect that changing latency from 7 ms to 10/12 ms can have on a system. I also know which values allow to play.

Try what I say, just to see if I'm right. If you're not happy with it, then I guess you have to use 2 computers: one for audio, one for video.

so the fact that I can run 1024 buffer, and still have pops when I chose vmix as the active window,

and the fact that I can go as good as 64 buffer, and have no pops when running vmix as long as it's not the active window.

and the part where I can run all kinds of other programs, make them the active window, and not encounter this problem...

you don't think vmix is related to this issue?

it only has problems dealing with real time audio when vmix is the active window, the workaround I'll likely use, if need be, is to use vmix but never touch the program directly... and program a zillion hotkeys.

how about we see if perhaps vmix is indeed the issue, instead of buying another computer? is that so crazy?

Is vMix, for sure, running on the Nvidia GPU?

The card is definitely a minimum card.

Also running at 4k can be an issue with such a minimum card.
What about running the display at 1920x1080? same issue?

it's the only card I have and it's running a two monitor's, one of which is a 4k. Runs like a dream, until vmix is chosen.

I'll try different resolutions... but the fact that it only happens when it's active is what has me confused. gimme a minute

You have onboard video on this motherboard are you sure vMix is not using the Intel?

In use: NVIDIA GeForce GT 740 (the choices are default and two identical looking NVIDIA GeForce GT 740 choices)

low latency is not set

neither is enable optimus graphics compat

output format UYVY
renderer EVR
skip 0
priority normal

Everything under that is checked except memory and read lock.

I will add this wrinkle... if I make a change like fps, or something that requires vmix to restart...if I stay on vmix as the active window... I don't get the drop outs. if I chose another window, then go back to vmix.. the drop outs happen again.

Are you using hardware encoding, and have you tried switching it off? In case of my x99 this was one of the many tweaks I did to get rid of audio dropouts.

Hardware encoding in vmix: check in your streaming and recording settings if the box is ticked.

@ Ittaidv

I believe hardware encoding is supported with GTX 750 and above.
As far as I am concerned, NVidia x10 to x40 series cards are entry level cards anyways.

But it may be a mute point in ckurtis' case as I am inclined to think it is a software/driver incompatibility issue somewhere along the line.
Just my thoughts.

Tried the hardware encoding off and on both in stream and record settings. the 740 with 4gig has been easily handling 2-3 monitors at up to 4k resolutions, but if you guys think it's the issue I'll replace it.

The big question is then, what do you think will work? something to power a minimum of 3 monitors, and will fit into one slot? I'll get it tomorrow if that's the weak link here.

Nothing is more frustrating that being so close to perfection, but you just can't click one window or it all goes to hell.

I'm going to likely ditch my firewire card and my usb3.0 card for a combo card so I can fit a double space graphics card in my tower. So I'm open to two space cards.

Any thoughts on these 1060's or 960's? http://a.co/bVvKSaa

or this one? http://a.co/hxf4tnX

will they be supported by vmix if I encounter the same problem?

Thanks
