Hi Martin,

I've just bought this card, and was trying to use it with vMix - it sees the device under Add Input -> Capture, but it gives the following error:

Hi Andrew,

What settings have you selected when adding it to vMix?
Going by the MPC-HC output it should be 1280x720 and the NTSC 60p option.

Hi,

Yep, I've tried that. To be sure, I set the source to 720p @60Hz as well (it's currently the HDMI out of my laptop). No joy. I've updated to the latest drivers for the card. I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit, and vMix 64 bit as well.

Unfortunately the patch doesn't seem to have fixed my issue I get the same error still.

I _have_ managed to get the card to display through MPC-HC now, but I'm not sure how I've done that! I find it odd that the device only shows up as 720p in MPC-HC - in Open Broadcaster Software (an open source RTMP webcasting app) I can set the resolution up to 1920x1080@30fps. Anything else you can think of to try? I am happy to install any directshow tools or utils if it helps get a resolution. :)

I second that Famous Pictures this is the only card I have being using for every version of vMix and it works fine.

I have this same card and I am experiencing the same problem with the same error.

No combination of resolutions/frame rates work. The card works flawlessly in other programs that consume capture card video such as Xsplit and Open Broadcaster Software.

The card should work at 1080p with 30fps, or 720p with 60fps, or anything lower.

I am running vMix 8.0.0.56.

I'm not totally closed to the idea of getting a new capture card, but the one that Famous Pictures recommended will not do, since it can only capture a max of 1080i. I need a minimum of 1080p. I would prefer to not have to get a new card, since this one seems to work just fine everywhere else.

Any thoughts/ideas? I can try to provide logs or test builds if need be.

In 8.0.0.56 when you see the error could you please click "Send Error Report" so I can investigate further.
8.0.0.56 includes some extra error logging so I can see what is going on.

Done, just sent an error report at 10:25pm Pacific Time (UTC-8:00).

I selected the AVerMedia HD Capture C985 Bus 2
1920x1080 Resolution
NTSC 60i/30p
Default Input (should be HDMI)
No Deinterlacing
No Audio device

Virtual GenLock is checked (not sure what this does)
Use VMR is unchecked

I think I see what is happening, as a test could you try ticking Use VMR to see if that works?

What appears to be happening is an error when vMix requests the card to provide a list of formats it supports.
All cards should support this, so it is strange why this particular card is returning an error.

I would have to purchase one of these cards to know for sure what is happening.

If at all possible I would recommend going with an Intensity Pro instead. These cards are cheaper in most markets, guaranteed to work with vMix
and support 1080p

Odd, somehow that doesn't seem right to me.

Do you think you could get in contact with OBS_Jim? He is the developer for an open source project called Open Broadcaster Software, he owns a Live Gamer HD, and he was able to get it to work with his software. He said he'd love to talk to you about it and tell you how it works. You can email him at obs.jim (AT) gmail.com if you want to figure out how to get it to work.

I highly recommend figuring out this issue, because the Live Gamer HD is a very popular capture card for gamers and streamers, and the streamers who want to do cooler stuff with video (like myself and Grimble) are starting to run into this problem. Having Live Gamer HD support would be a big win for sure!

Thanks for spending time on this! vMix is a really impressive program so far.

Jim here. To use the avermedia cards, you must not rely on the GUID of the output formats alone. Not all devices seem to use them properly. You need to fall back on VIDEOINFOHEADER::bmiHeader.biCompression, which containts the proper output type as a fourcc code. Then you will be able to find the output and you'll be able to use it just fine. Typically the avermedia cards will use the fourcc 'YV12', which is YVU420.

Not sure if that was your problem, but that's what I had to do to get it to work.
