I just downloaded it onto an iPad 4 and an iPhone 6.

I crashed it in the first few seconds on the iPad by simply attempting to pinch to zoom. Easily repeatable. The Zoom slider is also not working on the iPad. I suspect NewTek will get this resolved pretty quickly.

It seems to be working very well on the iPhone 6, both in standard and HD mode... looks good!

Looks interesting and probably not a bad investment for $28, but I'm curious to know if there is much latency when mixing with other "Live" cameras.

Having an issue on the iPad where the Hi quality is not sending a widescreen HD signal. Remains 960x720 in both NDI Video Monitor and vMix.

Any chance they could do a demo version with watermark on shot so we can test?

Works very nicely on Samsung S6 Edge. Video quality is good (as good as the camera). Latency is very low similar to NDI in the studio between PC's. Very choppy on laptop running vMix via WiFi. Very good with laptop connected via CAT6 (Thanks Martin!)

I will definitely show this off on next week's show.

One of the reasons don't want to spend $27 dollars until I know it works well for everyone and a demo version would be good way to get more people testing it so they resolve any issues.

iPhone NDICam Special Offer

Folks.

Just a quick note to advise you that we are running a special offer on the original NDICam app for iPhone which has been shipping since March.

** For a limited period the price is more than 50% off the previous price. **

NDICam is a mature app which has been thoroughly tested and used across many different iPhones, iPads and with the whole gamut of NDI based receivers, monitors, production systems etc.
NDICam also has some unique features you wont find elsewhere, including the option to use full HD 1080 (where phone and wifi performance allows), and the ability to use the phone's flash as a tally light (just fix on a tiny bit of red gel).

Information on our range of NDI Products for iOS and OSX
http://sienna.tv/ndi

Direct link to the app store for the NDICam special offer:

Enjoy !

It seems like your link is invalid (shortened link that has three dots)..

I think the correct link is: https://itunes.apple.com...1074065391?ls=1&mt=8

Kane,

I applied the update.

Zooming on the new build now doesn't crash my iPad 4, but it doesn't zoom either (neither pinch to zoom, nor using the slider)

So for me, it is only half way fixed. I do appreciate how quickly your team got a new build out there, but it still needs work.

I will try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

In any event, zooming on a iPad 4 is not a priority for me, as I generally use an iPhone 6 or and iPad Mini 2 as a camera.
Now that the crash has been fixed, using the iPad 4 as a backup device is doable.

Zooming isn't supported on some iPad units when the camera is operating in video mode. You can verify this by using the Apple camera app and setting it to video mode.

I have bought the app in my Sony Xperia E4G. It does not work.
I suggest to make a database with tested brands, at least for now that NewTek does not provide a demo version.
Waste of money.

Hi!

working on a project where NDI for iOS or Android could be an option.

I'd like to know :

- which resolutions are supported ?
- which devices are recommended or known to work well ?
- what are the minimum Wifi bandwidth requirements in order to get a decent stream regarding resolutions. I need to evaluate the density of Wifi APs coverage... Assuming 5GHz is used.

AFAIK, NDI is not adaptive bitrate. What happens when the bandwidth lowers ?

Thanks
Guillaume

just got on the ndi bandwaggon.

tested it with ios: ipod 5th gen and iphone 7.

it is ok but for long recordings heat is an issue. the iphone and ipod got very warm - used ot for an hour.

quality is hd 720 and sd. but the main problem is that you can jot set the framerate. this will adjust according to the scene. you can freeze it with focus but you can not set it p.e. on 25 frames and the change the gain a little.

so this might end you up with blurry images due to low framerates and not bandwidth.

just trying to get around this issue.

did not test 5g yet. testing in an office is different than in a live venue with 100 or 1.000 people all using their phones...

so my initial thought about replacing my remote cam and or my spare webcam as a b cam will have to weight on smome more testing. i am consideting buying a new ipod because price value is great: camera for photo and video, field recorder with rode lav and app, monitor for drone, monitor for vmix production for the camera operator etc.

but as a camera in live productions ? not sure!

any ndi camera alternatives in this price range?
stefan

Dank je wel Stefan!

Yeah thanks for the feedback.

I suspected heat to be an issue, as it is for any type of long duration streaming on such devices.

It's a customer request to be using a smartphone on his own for a 90' feed. IHMO it's technically difficult aswell as the assurance of getting a very poor program quality (not to mention image quality).

If ever I go for wireless NDI, the wifi infrastructure would be dedicated to this production according to the location perimeter.

I don't know any.

But I know many solutions to use for wireless signal transmission with standard cameras (which is btw my first choice on this project)

Tot straks ;o)

We've only made some quick checks, so my view is not very well grounded.

Tried Sienna's NDI cam a few months ago on an iPhone 6.
And NewTek's NDI Camera on a Samsung Galaxy S7 a month ago.
Decent (not superspeedy, say 50 Mbps) WiFi gave only usable results for SD resolution. HD too stuttering.

In my view OK as a B-cam, for illustrative purposes. No good if you need to do a decent HD production. Main conclusion, you need WiFi that can sustain the required bandwidth.

Thanks Richard

Very clear. NDI is not an option...

I might go for RTSP or RTMP from a device if the client insists despite my previous experiments on Android with GoCoder or Larix Broadcaster also show that overheating is a major concern for 90'.
