I used to do that last year, but I can not remember the exact setup, and I used only one (1) PC to do it, and it worked great...I think there is a tutorial by George Price on the setup....I got the idea from his video...you can do a Youtube search for it But I think it went like this... do a 'Screen Capture', select 'This PC', there is a selection where you can choose the area you want to capture, adjust the capture area to fit the Skype video area....the drawback is not to minimize the Skype window, as you will loose the capture...it worked for me for what I was doing If i find the vMix Forum post, I will re-post it Update: http://forums.vmix.com/d....aspx?g=posts&t=1948

Hi
With the demise of my old HD I have lost the potential ability to utilize Skype and vMix for recording remote interviews.
Biggest issue right now is that although I purchased Virtual Audi Cables, and have ported them overr to my laptop, I cannot get clean audio with them using Martin's technique. Is there a way to test VAC to see if they are working Okay or is the problem stemming from elsewhere?
I am trying the single computer application with vMix16 HD
Thanks
Whit

I had issues with Virtual Audio Cables too. There are a couple easy ways to add Skype to vMix. The easiest is with the new vMix 17 with NDI. The example by Martin is one I have also used several times. http://forums.vmix.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=11167#post11167. The thing different. I use a separate audio card (when using the one-computer method) for the Skype caller. It works quit well. Below are a couple examples below from my YouTube channel. The first is with 2 computers (vMix 16). The second is using the new vMix 17 with NDI. Until the arrival of my new HP Z series computer, I am trying to accomplish the recording of a Skype call using V16 HD and Martin's technique on one computer.I have hit a snag, using my MSI gaming laptop, I get a distortion on Line2 of the VAC cable. I am wondering if this could be an issue with Windows 8.1 (vMix 16) ? Any records of success with vMix 16, Windows 8.1 and Martin's technique? Thanks Whit

Thanks Whit Greetings, Kind-of doubt Windows 8.1; vMix 16 is the issue. 8.1 was around for some time and not many complaints. I really never had any luck with VAC, period. That's why I use the separate audio card. Found it to be so silly, simple easy to use for the caller's incoming audio over VAC. Good Luck, ~George

I need more than luck. Testing out VAC * using Audio repeater I sent output from Line 1 to Windows media mapper * I then tested the Line1 and it carriend the test sound to the speakers just fine * I repeated this process with Line2, and it too sounded fine
I am guessing it is a combination of vMIX16 and my MSI Gaming Laptop Audio setup I will abandon this project until my new HP Z440 workstation arrives and start all over with it. I am assuming I will have to pay to upgrade from vMIX16 to vMIX17 to get the NDI function. I think also it has horizontal tabs for the inputs, easier for these old eyes to read. Thanks for the insights George. Whit

Whit, Make sure all your settings in Windows, vMix, and VAC for audio devices are the same (eg 48 kHz). Or, try Voice Meeter Banana instead of VAC.

That's sound advice. I have a license for VAC but I've set it aside since the release of VoiceMeeter Banana. While it may not have all of the low-level controls it's much, much easier to use than VAC.
I don't see a reason to use VAC until the number of devices you need to access outstrips VMBs I/O compliment.

I then downloaded and installed the VMB. Of course didn't RTFM, so had to play around a bit, but it worked. I still have to work around the echo from my laptop mic, probably have to break out the YETI Blue. Things are looking up. Bye bye VAC (at least for now). Thanks again Whit
