Hi all,

I just wanted to see what your thoughts are on using a Raid configuration for recording on vMix. I'm trying to decide what route I should go for a recent dedicated vMix workstation purchase. I'd like to have the ability to record 4 ISOs and a PGM using ffmpeg's mpeg2 option at the highest video and audio bit rate. Im torn between a 4 drive (7200rpm, 128mb cache, SAS, 6gb/s, 4tb enterprise) Raid 10 configuration and/or just 2-1tb Samsung 850 SSDs.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you can get the performance you need out of the SSDs, less moving parts and parts to fail is always a better thing. Not to mention power requirements, heat, space.

I'm using 2-1TB 850s in RAID 0 configuration, primarily for replay. Everything works perfectly so far. Blackmagic Speed Test shows just under 1GB/Sec.

Thanks for the input so far guys! Is raid 0 necessary for SSDs on instant replay?
