Hi Xavier!
Would be really important to be able to use Image stabilization on OMTake. Now with V1.4 its very hard to get a decent video from a hand held iPhone.
Enabling Image stabilization would also increase the video delay and/or crop the video? if so, then this should be an optional setting.
Would also be essential to be able to set White Balance, HUE and Exposure adjustments = Exposure Compensation.
Kind regards, Jani

Hi Jani, Thanks for the feedback. Image stabilization will be available in OMTake 1.5, which should be released by next week. You're right that it comes with a trade-off: enabling it adds some latency and a slight crop of the frame, so it will be an optional setting you can turn on or off depending on your setup. Version 1.5 will also add manual image controls: white balance, hue, and exposure compensation. I'll post here as soon as the update is out. Kind regards, Xavier https://omtake.app/

Hi Jani, As promised, OMTake 1.5 is now available on the App Store. A new settings button next to the microphone lets you adjust the picture, even while you are live. The button turns yellow when a manual setting is active, so you can see at a glance that the image is not in auto mode. Image stabilization is now an optional setting with four modes: Off, Standard, Cinematic, and Low latency on iOS 26 and later. As you anticipated, stabilization crops the image slightly, and Standard and Cinematic add latency, so Low latency is the best fit for a live source when your device supports it. White balance can be set to Auto, Lock, or Manual with temperature and tint controls (tint corresponds to the hue adjustment you mentioned). Lock is handy to keep auto white balance from drifting in the middle of a shot. Exposure compensation is available from -3 to +3 EV. All these settings are saved between sessions. This version also displays the time and battery level at the top of the screen during streams, and fixes several issues: rotating between the two landscape orientations no longer interrupts the stream on the receiver, tap-to-focus only reacts to taps on the video image, releasing a pinch-to-zoom no longer triggers a focus change, and the focus indicator stays inside the image. Let me know how it works on your side with hand held shots, your feedback has been very helpful. Kind regards, Xavier https://omtake.app/

Hi Xavier! V1.5 is a great leap forward! Will try it soon on production environment. Noticed that there is still that issue renaming the OMT stream if the phone is in horizontal mode. The Pen icon next to the Stream name does nothing when tapped - only the focus/exposure point is set there.. It would better to set this Renaming to the new Menu and remove the current renaming functions altogether from the Main screen. I would also move Framerate and Resolution settings to a completely new Cog-menu. This Cog menu should also contain the Stream name -configuration setting. So all or almost all stream specic settings would be found there - which are settings that are seldomly neccessary to be changed and definately the settings that you don't want to be changed accidentally. OMTake 1.5.jpg (26kb) downloaded 292 time(s).Also it would be better to move Lens buttons where the other functions like Resolution is set, so them would not be so close to the Start/Stop button and it would be easier to choose them. Now its very easy to miss these buttons and set focus/exposure instead.. Noticed also when the Settings menu is visible and in the largest size it darkens the video image below. This is not a good thing because image adjustments are made in that Settings menu and it makes adjusting the video harder. Kind regards, Jani

Hi Jan,
Thanks again for the detailed feedback, it's really helpful. For the next version I'm planning a dedicated cog menu for stream name, resolution and framerate, so they can't be changed by accident (this also takes care of the rename issue in landscape). I'll also make sure the camera settings panel no longer darkens the preview, and add an optional "Start stream automatically on launch" setting. For the lens buttons, I'm looking at the best way to keep them away from the record button.
I'll let you know as soon as a build is ready.
Best regards, Xavier

Feature request:
Choosable 'Lock orientation' would lock the straming orientation to current orientation
or select it from Orientation mode list like:
'Auto' (this woud behave like it does in V1.5), 'Only horizional (Landscape)', 'Only vertical (Portrait)', 'Lock to current orientation' (this would lock the orientation whatever it is when stream start)
Kind regards, Jani

Feature request:
Optional Lens Correction
Now seeing at least with wide shots that there are visible lens distortions.
I dont't know if this Lens Correction is possible to enable and if it is then it's obviously adding render time to the video, but it would be definately a welcome feature addition to OMTake.
Kind regards, Jani

Hi Jani,
Thanks for the request. I looked into it, and the good news is that lens correction is already there: when you use the 0.5x ultra-wide lens, iOS applies geometric distortion correction directly in the camera hardware by default, and OMTake does not disable it. It costs nothing in rendering time, but it cannot remove everything. Some distortion remains at the edges, and above all an ultra-wide lens naturally stretches subjects near the borders of the frame because of perspective. No lens correction can fix that part, as it comes from the field of view itself.
For wide shots, the best result is usually to switch to the 1x lens and move the phone back a little. The main lens has much less distortion and generally better image quality.
To make sure nothing unusual is happening on your side, could you tell me which lens you were using (0.5x or 1x), the resolution and frame rate, and whether white balance was set to Auto or Manual? A screenshot of the shot would also help. If something in a specific format turns out to bypass the correction, I will fix it.
Kind regards, Xavier

Kind regards, Xavier Hi Xavier! Don't recall the actual lens that was initially selected (0.5x?). Just zoomed with a pinch to corret framing. Next time I have to remember to select 1x and see if all fits and use it.. and then in vMix crop the 4K OMT source if needed. Used Manual/Locked WB, 4K 25 fps. Kind regads, Jani

Hi everyone, OMTake 1.6 is now live on the App Store. This update is largely driven by feedback from this forum, so a big thank you to Jan (jet) for the detailed testing and suggestions. The main change is a new stream settings menu, opened from a gear button in the top bar. Source name, resolution, frame rate, OMT quality and orientation are now all in one place. The top bar only shows the current resolution and frame rate, which keeps the camera screen clean, and the source name and quality are locked while you are live so nothing changes by accident during a show. Orientation now has a "Lock on start" mode: the stream keeps the orientation it started in until you stop it, so rotating the phone while live no longer changes the frame size seen by vMix. "Auto" still follows the phone's rotation as before. There is also a new option to start streaming as soon as the app opens, without tapping record. It is off by default and is skipped if the device is overheating, which should be useful for fixed or unattended camera positions. For exposure, after tapping to focus you can now drag up on the image to brighten or down to darken, in 0.1 EV steps. The value stays in sync with exposure compensation in the camera settings. This version also brings several improvements: the camera settings panel no longer dims the preview, so you can judge exposure and white balance on the real image; lens buttons are easier to hit and taps near the controls no longer move the focus by mistake; after a thermal slowdown, stopping the stream restores your own resolution, frame rate and quality; and long source names are now handled correctly for discovery on the network. More details and the setup guide are on the website: https://omtake.app/App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6767678547As always, feedback and feature requests are very welcome here. Xavier

Hi Xavier!
Great quality work! Again!
So many cool and useful features implemented such a nice way! :)
Would be very handy if the Exposure and other sliders on the Camera Settings Menu would be on the top of the Menu (now on the bottom in V1.6) This would make adjusting video image more convenient when you don't need to expand the full Menu to get access to these. Exposure compensation should be on the top, then Hue, Temperature and the rest of the items.
Is it possible to make OMTake to run in the background so that when switching for example to iOS Settings OMTake would still be able to stream?
Kind regards, Jani

Feature request:
SRT support!
Would be very nice to have SRT streaming capabilities also in OMTake!
So remote connections from around the world would be possible over SRT - with the same App :)
Mode should be selectable from the Cog menu.
Yes, there are other apps already, but most of them are not so good and other are just too expensive or has other weird limitations.
Kind regards, Jani

Hi Xavier!
Question:
Does OMTake 1.6 currently check if there is an OMT stream with a same name already on the network?
Opening a stream with the same name is the way to troubles.
Users should be able to choose from different Modes in Prefs what to do in such situations:
- Abort - Don't start the stream and notify why
- Add an increment to the Name - 'OMTake_stream' would be 'OMTake_stream-1' / 'OMTake_stream.1'
- Retry forever - Retry so long that the stream can be created with the exact name user specified. Notify retries and notify when the stream is created.
Kind regards, Jani

Hi Xavier! Looked into this lens distortion issue yesterday. Yes, I had 1.0x lens and then pinced it up to about 1.5x.. and the barrel distortion is quite noticable.. Would it be possible to correct lens distortions more in app by drawing some points and lines and the app would compensate the distortion? Kind regards, Jani

Feature request:
Function name: Lock Start button Automatically.
Desired Behaviour: When enabled in the menu and when stream is started automatically on the Startup, the App would require unlock the Start button from the menu.
And if the 'Lock Start button Automatically' -function is not used then the lock function could be still manually activated/deactivated from the menu.
Kind regards, Jani

Hi Jan, Thank you for all these suggestions, they are really helpful. Regarding SRT, I looked into it, but I don’t plan to add it to OMTake for now. OMTake is built around OMT on the local network, and SRT would mean a completely different encoding and transport stack. For remote contributions over the internet, vMix Call already covers this use case very well: the remote guest only needs a browser on their phone, and the feed comes straight into vMix with talkback included. I think it is the best tool for that job. About duplicate stream names, you are right, this can cause trouble. In a future version, OMTake will check the network before starting, and if the name is already in use, it will automatically add a suffix and show a clear notice, so the stream never silently conflicts with another one. The option to lock the Start button is a good idea for unattended cameras. I will add a lock setting in the cog menu, which can also be enabled automatically when the stream starts on launch. For lens distortion, I will first check whether the camera configuration in that zoom range can be improved, since iOS correction should normally handle most of it. A manual calibration tool is unfortunately not planned, as it would add processing load on every frame and impact thermal performance during long sessions. Thanks again for testing and for the detailed feedback. Kind regards, Xavier https://omtake.app/

Would also like to have that " Retry forever / Wait the Exact Stream name to become available" -behaviour. The goal is to ensure that if an OMT Stream input has already been configured to a specific vMix Input then it would alwys be mapped to the right Input when a preset is loaded. So if there were a stream started earlier with a "reserved name" and vMix operator notices the issue, then he can inform the "roque" camera operator to change his stream name to a different one and then OMTake would be able to Automatically create the stream with the Exact name specified (for that particular phone & input) so when the name is freed from the "rogue" camera operator then vMix would get the right stream to the right place without the hassle to reconfigure and screw up inputs that were set upfront in vMix. Kind regards, Jani
