Hi everyone,
I’m considering this laptop for a vMix setup (2–4 cameras, possibly DeckLink via Thunderbolt) and would love your input on whether it’s a good fit.
Specs:
Intel Core i7-14650HX (16 cores, up to 5.2 GHz) 64 GB DDR5 RAM (5600 MHz) NVIDIA RTX 4070 (140W, 8GB VRAM) 2 TB NVMe SSD (Gen4) 16” display (2560x1600, 165 Hz) Thunderbolt 4 (1 port), HDMI 2.1 Wi-Fi 7, 1 Gbit LAN
Planned use:
vMix with 2–4 cameras (possibly expanding later) Streaming + recording simultaneously Considering using a DeckLink card via Thunderbolt enclosure
Questions:
Is this a solid choice for stable vMix performance? Any concerns with thermals/throttling in longer productions? Would the single Thunderbolt port be limiting in a real setup?
Appreciate any feedback or real-world experience 🙌

Choose a laptop with intel Arrow Lake-HX cpu (ultra 7 255HX), as Thunderbolt 4 is natively supported by the CPU.
or AMD cpu + usb 40 gbps port like Asus TUF Gaming A16 or Acer Nitro V 16 with Ryzen 7 260 + RTX 5070 for example
laptop with a MUX switch that bypasses the integrated graphics processing (iGPU) and use only RTX
also with 2 slots M.2 and add a second M.2 NVMe SSD for recording.
32 GB DDR5 is sufficient
use only pcie x4 capture cards + resolution of 1080p60 max for your projects.
1 x HDMI port + 1 x USB-C port (compatible with DisplayPort + G-Sync) for extended Windows displays + Vmix fullscreen via a USB-C to 2 x HDMI (or 2 x DP) adapter Note: Maximum 4 displays (screen laptop + 3 external screens)
laptop configurations according to the vmix recommendations (Nvidia GPU only / PC performance mode / resizable bar / laptop screen at 60Hz / etc...)
i've used 8 in/out 1080p60 on laptop ryzen 7 8845hs + rtx 4070 and on laptop ultra 9 285hx + rtx 5070 ti with tb4 pcie enclosure + 2 x pcie capture cards x4
no problem
place the PC on a stand for ventilation.
If you have the budget, Ultra 9 275hx + RTX 5070 Ti or more will be fine (legion pro 5 or 7 / Gigabyte Aorus Master)

I personally love utalizing a small switcher infront of my vMix instances to handle camera switching and the main audio embed. This way you can utalize these capture cards at at 4k cause it's only handling one feed.
