Hi, I usually don't use NDI for cameras and prefer SDI but setting up a system for a client.
They have 2 PTZOptics cameras HD - and I am testing using NDI. It is on a gigabit network and all is set OK.
But I also want to test and use the NDI HX3 option. ( I use that one for a Rodecaster video S they also use).
How can I force vMix to use HX3? And how can I check...
I also notice the incoming framerates vary a lot... Normally with SDi at 25 fps it is a neat 40ms but NDI is different. Do I need to worry about that?
greetings Stefan

If you usually work with SDI, you could still stick with it and just convert to NDI where needed. Might save you some headaches.

Thanks, That's done already.
But as I understand NDI and NDI HX3 are two separate channels. I can enable HX3 or not and still use NDI (full bandwidth). I tested all that in vMix.
But How can I force using HX3 and not the NDI stream... when both are enabled...
thanks.

And using NDI over a networkcable with power saves a lot of hardware and cables etc etc. So there is also a clear benefit. Thes PTZoptics are now only connected with one cable, I turn on power and all is up and running... But NDI and HX3 protocols are still a mistery for me - unlike SDI and real camera's... but thanks.

What are the differences between NDI HB (full) and HX. NDI HB on the output of a cam needs to my knowledge a FPGA chip. Only a few cams will have that build in. Most will use a software NDI option which directs you to HX. WHat version of HX depends on the firmware, and frankly speaking, the cam PCB layout and resources available. I'm not aware that PTZoptics has gone the FPGA route. So all NDI from them should be some sort of HX.
vMix can ingest all NDI variances but outputs (full) NDI only. To convert the output back to HX you need to use other software. One that comes with the NDI tools for this task is the NDI Bridge. Third mode is local and there you can transcode into different NDI qualities.
NDI is CPU heavy, keep that in mind.
