Various elements within the interface do not honor their assigned Input Key and instead only reference the input number. One HUGE example of this oversight is in the Settings / Shortcuts or Activators. If you reorder anything within any run of controls or feedbacks your entire configuration requires a detailed repair and validation. This can take hours if you have a large show with multiple points of contact. Other areas include Layer selection, Multiview Layout assignments, and others.
ALL INTERFACE ELEMENTS should be locked to what you have selected unless they are removed to which they simply become blank. If you don't have control over specifying what version of an input ID it should be using, ie: Name/#/ID, it should DEFAULT to the UNIQUE ID.
This has to be one of the worst and most frustrating developer errors in vMix!!!

I want it to respect the Unique ID of the Input selected... which is not currently honored. If I set volume faders, for example, to Inputs 1-8, then add a 9th input and move it to position 1 or 5 or what ever, that stack of assignments breaks.

I just quoted the help files. In your case it should behave like you want it to if you untick the checkbox.
