If I send a signal via external renderer, where is the signal acutally rendered? Does my Blackmagic card do the rendering or my GPU or my CPU?

External Renderer

Select this option to send video and audio out to compatible output devices.

Some examples of hardware that support output including most AJA, Blackmagic Design and BlueFish devices

Use Display Settings: When ticked this option will match the Frame Rate and Output Size settings under the Display tab at all times.

External Output allows you to send audio and video out of vMix in a number of different ways

1. To HDMI, SDI or Analog outputs through compatible hardware from AJA, Blackmagic Design and Bluefish.

2. To other applications running on the same PC such as Skype

3. To other devices on the network using NDI

Thank you Kayo33 for the answers, but that wasn't my question here :)

Hi,

To clarify, all processing/rendering in vMix is first done on the GPU before sending the final video to one of the outputs such as Fullscreen, Recording and External Outputs.

In this case "External Renderer" refers to what some external output capture devices were called back in the DirectShow days.
But it doesn't mean rendering, merely a device that can accept the frames that vMix has already completed rendering on the GPU.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,

I noticed in the features upcoming in vMix 27 the number of external outputs has been expanded to 4, but it was stated that most systems are probably not up to handling this load.

I was wondering if you could elaborate a little more on what system components are placed under additional load when running 4 external outputs? Do you have concerns about most CPUs and their clock speeds, core count, CUDA core count on the GPU, GPU clock speed, PCIe bus lane count, or other specifications?

Additionally, what combination of hardware do you believe might possibly be up to handling 4 external outputs?

Much appreciated,
Thanks!

For what it's worth, I tested using all 4 outputs with a Blackmagic Decklink DUO connected to a Intel NUC Serpent Canyon, and it worked well for the brief test I did. I was only using 1 input at the time, but CPU and GPU were around 30%. I plan to spend some more time testing this before drawing conclusive opinion, but it seems like medium to high end computers should have no real problem.
