Quick Question: Switch 2 cams including their embedded (onboard)audio stream?

Longer version:
Day two (8hrs sofar) of trying to record audio alongside video
I've followed the guide for win7 'stereo mix'
but as I do not have a separate sound card installed, is the guide relavent to my setup?
Test setup is 1 camera via firewire and one camera hdmi through Intensity shuttle
Vid is switched fine (not withstanding the firewire delay) but I simply cannot record a peep of audio either thru the camera onboard mics or line/mic ins on the computer and seemingly have tried every combination but it's as though all audio inputs are mute
I really do need an aaaahhhhh moment here (read hear)
please and thank you

Media info indicates an audio track in the recorded mpeg but the line is flat ie no amplitude

Hi,

A couple of tests you can do to narrow down where the problem is:

1. Click the Mixer button in vMix and see if the audio meter for each input is showing some audio is present.
2. When recording using the Stereo Mix, you can also check the audio meter in the Mixer window under the Recording tab.

If the Stereo Mix is not showing any audio, try plugging in some headphones or speakers to confirm you can hear the audio from the inputs.
Also, some built in sound cards require some speakers or headphones to be plugged in before the Stereo Mix will work.

Regards,

Martin

Thank you for your time and information Martin
I have overlooked the 'Stereo Mix' option when recording and cannot find it on the GUI
Would you point it out please
all the best

ah yes that Stereo mix..had done all that
I still don't know if the audio track which accompanies the video via HDMI from the camera is switched and also output along with the video as is done with my DV-firewire switcher ..both are switched and output. Is this the case with vmix? (is my question understood)..thanks for your forebearance.
I have a national sports event coming up the end of January
