Using 4K input but only HD output on vMix HD

I have vMix HD and would like to use a 4K camera with it. My intention is to use vMix to select a portion of the 4K input not larger than 1080p, and then to output that picture using vMix. The output stream will be HD size (1080p). The idea is that using the 4K input will give me some zooming/panning/tilting capability without having to physically zoom the camera or its lens.
I presume that this would be possible using vMix 4K, but I only have vMix HD. I would love to know if this would be possible.

Yes, this will work. The vMix license only refers to the project resolution, not any input resolutions.

vMix HD does not support 4K camera Inputs, you need vMix 4K or above for that.

Thanks for your reply, Ice — though I am now uncertain what the situation is!
I appreciate the help, but the replies from Paco and Ice contradict one another! Which is correct?
Can anyone shed any further light on the matter?

Hi Bruce
You cannot use a 4K camera in vMix HD.
If you attempt this, an error message will pop-up saying you need to upgrade to a higher edition of vMix
Similarly, you cannot use an HD camera with the FREE vMix Basic or vMix SD editions (which have subsequently been removed from the vMix website a few years ago because of the confusion it was causing and the fact that so few people have or use SD cameras anymore).
With vMix 4K and above, you can use a 4K Camera in a 1080p project as per your described intentions of using "areas of interest" within the 4K Image and not lose any resolution when you zoom into the image up to 75%.
