I didn't know if I should put this in Hardware or here so I put it here to be on the safe side.

THUNDERBOLT 3

Here are some of the things I have found recently when looking for T3 stuff.
10G speed with Dual ports - One Coming and One Going in an old school daisy chain fashion.
http://www.sonnettech.co...0g-sfp-thunderbolt3.html
This would make 4K NDI butter smooth and cable runs with CAT-6A could be 300 feet if I read it correctly.
I could see a laptop with 1 or 2 camera captures(in 4K) and a CAT-6 Run to the Head end as being super doable with this kinda speed.

Enclosures - There are about 5 Thunderbolt 3 enclosures that I have found
These two seem to be the least expensive I out there

https://www.akitio.com/expansion/node

From reading up on these T3 enclosures they have 4 Lane PCI connections so you could do 1 4k card or a quad 1080P card in them.
I wonder how many you can realistically daisy chain, could you do 2 or 3 4K cards and still have them work?

Then there are the Docks and I have seen a bunch of these as well.
Here is one example https://www.owcdigital.c...ducts/thunderbolt-3-dock

You may be wondering why do I want a DOCK?
This would make it so you could permanently RACK your gear and use the DOCK to connect it.
Then you roll up to a gig and connect 1 yes 1 cable and your are ready to go.
Yes I know you still need to set up the cameras, lights and audio but if your rig had them built in someway you would be good to go.

Also this would save your laptop connections and keep the laptop from looking like it grew tentacles.

Thanks for checking out my post and I would love to hear what you think about T3 the return of THUNDERBOLT, heheh.
Have you been using it and what are your experiences?

Well Rich,
Love your enthusiasm :) Search around here and you will find that many of us use laptops with T2/T3, and for example the Akitio box (which has a slight limitation when it comes to room for connectors). Check out developing story: akitio thunderbolt 3 pcie input box.

As for Docks, very good idea! (I have had it too - haha!). But last time I checked none is yet available - only pre orders...

Only one cable? At least my laptops need a power cable too ;)

Even so - let's continue stretching the limits.

Thanks @richardgatarski
I think the Dell version and another dock for T3 were out, except I was not buying so they may have been preorder only as well.

Yeah I forgot about the power cable, d'oh!!! heheh.

So how far have people stretched T3, can you do more than 1 4K capture T3 box at the same time?
Has anyone used that 10G Ethernet box for NDI production?

I will search around more and dig further to find all the nooks and crannies for more Thunderbolt stuff.
Most of what I was seeing was T2 stuff and the speed doubling from 20 to 40 makes it twice as good so I am interested if it is twice as good in the real world.

Oh and the laptops with T3 keep dropping in price and increasing in features.
I have seen them as low as $1299 for 1060 6g w/ T3 and I only see this getting better and better.
The Alienware stuff is pretty amazing and some of it has 4 M.2 slots which blows me away.

Thanks everyone for checking this out.
