regardless of GPU or combination there off (Integrated or Nvidea) I am just not getting the browser as desktop capture input
Trying it with scanconverter I can see the mouse ( on black background)

Is this on purpose due to the existence of a web browser input ?

no it should work with local desktop capture on vMix host or NDI version on network computers. Also with Newtek tools.
Check your firewall maybe?

Is it only Chrome? Can you get full display or other apps?

This can happen when an app is taking advantage of hardware acceleration capabilities of the video card. That's a hardware feature that cannot be intercepted by the software layers where NDI and screen capture reside.

Try disabling hardware acceleration in CHrome.

http://ccm.net/faq/35743...le-hardware-acceleration

Open Google Chrome.
Click Customize and Control Google Chrome > Settings.
Click on "Show advanced settings" and scroll to the "System" section.
Uncheck "Use hardware acceleration when available" and restart Google Chrome.

Thank you mjgraves !

does the trick when both Chrome and vMix are running on the same integrated intel GPU.
As I run vMix on Nvidea (Chrome doesn't) still have the problem then

In addition , when using scanconverter vMix has no problem getting the browser regardless on what GPU it runs

Of course, that's capturing the hardware output. Final stage. Nothing to get in the way except a bad cable.

Incidentally, this can also happen if your try to share a Powerpoint window showing a slide presentation. When Powerpoint is showing slides (presenting) in a window it tries to use hardware acceleration, which fails.

When full screen it handles it differently, which works.

SO what is vMix capturing then ? (locally or externally with vmixdesktopcapture )
How does scanconverter distinguish between various windows/apps ?

Consider two different ways of capturing video; hardware vs software.

(1) Hardware - you connect the output of a computer to a capture card (or scan convertor.) Notwithstanding things like HDCP, whatever shows up on the display will be captured.

(2) Software - an app on the host intercepts the imagery en route to the display. It's part of a software stack. If hardware acceleration is being used on the video card the imagery that you seek to capture may not pass through that software stack at all, making it impossible to capture.

Disable hardware acceleration and you ensure that the stream is passing through the software stack, os accessible to desktop capture.

I learned this lesson in the bad old days when DVDs were new. Computers were slower and leveraged hardware acceleration to play the DVD. This was also part of the copy protection scheme. They wanted to ensure that you could not use a software DVD player & screen capture to make a copy of movie.

You could still capture the entire output of the VGA card, but screen captures returned a black rectangle where the video should be.
