It is vital that vMix have the ability to hot swap or add new camera inputs.
Currently even adding a new camera input is not possible without having to stop and start vMix with the new camera pre-connected.
vMix does not recognize the new camera input when it is added while the software is running.

This is important since often times during an event one needs to add a new camera angle or replace one that is having problems - and having to stop and restart the software, thereby interrupting the live stream and recording is not desirable.

Hopefully this can be fixed in future updates?

@ pesi

Can you explain your set up a little bit?
AFAIK, vMix is fully capable of adding a new Input, including Cameras, at anytime during a production or session.

I have an i7 quad laptop with 8GB ram and a dedicated nVidia card.
The camera inputs are Firewire (on through its own bus and the other through an Expresscard adaptor).
Another laptop (containing PowerPoint slides) is connected via the Ethernet port.

If vMix is already on and I try to add a camera, it is not recognized.
Or
If I disconnect one of the cameras while the vMix project is going (sometimes that has happened when someone accidentally knocks the cable out) and if I then try to plug the camera back in, it is not recognized. In this case one has to shut down vMix and restart it with the camera on and plugged in.

Hi Pesi

I think it's only related to firewire and windows. For example, if you use VLC it will have the same behaviour.
With SDI, HDMI, USB, NDI and stream sources this does not happen.

Good to know - I will be switching over to a complete Hdmi setup soon so this won't be an issue any more.
Thanks!

@ pesi

I don't think that is a vMix issue but rather a FireWire/Camera/Computer issue.
I use Panasonic cameras connected by FireWire and if I lose connection for some reason and reconnect, typically, all I need to do is "reset" the Input.
The only problem I ever encountered was with a JVC camera that required a tricky scenario with the computer in order to be recognized in Windows7.
