I just spent 20 minutes creating a multi-screen input with screen edges, an animated background and a score bug overlay utilizing multi view only to realize I had to REPEAT this tedious process in a 2nd Preset. It seems that having the ability to "copy" an input or at least it's settings from one preset to another would be a very useful feature. I know it would be for me.

You can... Simply create a "virtual input" for your multiview when it is set. See

@ JimJacobs

Creating a "Virtual Copy" of the Input is the quickest and easiest way to accomplish this...
Then it's just a matter of re-assinging the appropriate Overlay Inputs.

Ice that's true if you're working with in the same preset but if you're wanting to take that input to another preset you can't do that.

@ JimJacobs

Maybe I have misunderstood you, can you elaborate on what it is you want?
I'm not sure what you mean by "take that input to another preset".
I tend to create my "MultiView" special effects from "Blank" Inputs, which allows for 'unlimited' alterations to the "Virtual Copy" of it, but when using it as a template for certain elements of the "Multiview" Overlays such as the position of a LOGO or Clock, there is no need to alter the settings of those Overlays, just the elements or Inputs where necessary that are used as sources.

Jim

another method is this:

- create virtual inputs of inputs you need in your multiview

- make these virtual inputs become multiviews by importing the frame borders you want to use in the end. Setting up these borders is easier as it is full size, depending on your final layout you can crop inputs if required.
- Repeat this operation for all the inputs that will compose your final multiview.

- Now create the final multiview and load the already prepared virtual inputs with frame borders. The borders will follow any settings you make.

The only cons is thickness which will vary according to the scale reduction. But it is possible to anticipate this effect.

Hope this helps

Jim,
Given that I understand your need you can save the Preset with your well crafted Input. Then Open that Preset in another Preset, deselect all but the one you want, and click "Append" (Instead of "Open").

Of course it would be much more convenient if my old Feature Request for Export/Import individual inputs and shortcut sets got some support ;)
thanks 1 user thanked richardgatarski for this useful post.

Yes use the APPEND feature to copy inputs from one preset to another.

Or use SAVE AS and save the current preset using a different name. Delete what you don't need. Then save again. You have your original preset with the original arm and your revised preset under the new name

I figured out to do it this way but there still must be an easier way...

open the first title I need to copy, then save the preset, then open the saved preset file and search it for the input that matches the title I want to duplicate, copy the entire xml inputtage and duplicate it as many times as I need it to be in the preset, then save the preset file and then reopen it in vmix..

So to be precise:

1) open vmix
2) add input
3) select the title
4) edit the title
5 save the preset
6) open the preset in notepad
7) find the <input>....</input> and copy it
8) paste it as many times as you need it in the preset
9) save the preset file and close notepad
10 reopen the preset in vmix and make the changes to each title...

but there has got to be an easier way for this...

Have you tried creating a virtual input from that. This is how I copy my PIPs and change the sources.
