Hi all.
The last two weeks I have experienced an output freeze that requires a restart to fix.
In a nutshell, I can continue switching in preview but no matter what I do the output will not switch, add overlays etc. All inputs function normally.
I was thinking this may have something to do with issues relate to saving video delays and replaying via list, as I tend to get slight pauses and a dropped frame or two occasionally, but I am pretty clueless as to what may be causing it. I was also thinking it was the GPU but swapped that out and still happens. This was one freeze in 5 hrs of broadcast both weeks.
Specs: i7 4770 8 GB RAm win 8.1 R9 280 Graphics processor Latest vmix 18
What would be the best way to troubleshoot?

Is it just the "Program Output" screen (vMix main UI) or all output options as well (External/Streaming/Recording)? What GPU did you swap out? (while the R9 280 is a good card it's an AMD and not NVidia, which, AFAIK may not function optimally with vMix)

Thanks Ice.
Everything continues to stream and record fine, you just cant switch.
I actually switched out an nvidia 645 to the AMD last time this happened-- so its happened twice with two different cards.
I think I may do a fresh install of win8 and see if that helps.

Still not sure I understand... When you say you can switch "Preview", you mean physically send an Input to Preview (such as with "right Mouse click") but you are unable to transition any Input to "Program"? Is there any activity that precedes and triggers this "Freeze" (e.g. saving or playing a video delay)?

Thanks Ice.
That's correct. I am using 2 black magic mini recorders. I can put them both in preview but I cannot change output, nor add an overlay or make any changes to the program output. The program output doesnt freeze, it just wont respond. Clicking on reset does nothing. Last night, the only thing that I can think of is this happened shortly after removing an overlay.

One thing I should have mentioned is that the output window was changing the title bar, but not the input. So I could see that the program out put was trying to change to the capture card, but only the title changed while the old image stayed in place.

I experienced this just before an event recently. I was using an Intel Skull Candy and it was for video playback only (No Streaming or Recording). System worked fine for hours until I had to play the main video and my experience was exactly the same as you described. I could hear the audio of the different sources (videos) I tried but the none of the preview videos would switch to Program out. I had to close vMix and restart it and everything was fine.
I was worried the problem was related to the Skull Canyon, but based on your experience it's probably a bug.

Hi,
The only time we have seen this is when the operator accidentally activated one of the overlay channels without realising it. This will have the exact symptoms you have described, title in output changing, but input appearing to be "stuck", but its just the input being enabled as an overlay on top of the inputs.

Hi Martin.
In the midst of troubleshooting, that thought did cross my mind. I scanned all of the inputs, and noted none were activated in the overlay. In the midst of testing I also attempted to activate overlays that we were using and the program output would not update.

Maybe overlay 4 as that will appear over the top, or one of the inputs has been assigned to a stinger transition by mistake, as that will be on top of all overlays.
The symptoms exactly match an accidental overlay and there really is no way for the title to change without the video, unless the video that was stuck was only showing a still frame, which may indicate a rare graphics card bug, but that is also unlikely.
If it ever happens again go to Settings -> About and click Send Support Report while it is "stuck" and drop us an email and we will be able to tell you exactly what is happening...
