So I am experiencing an odd issue, if anyone can help it would be great.

so streaming is smooth no issues, no jumps jerks or anything. at the same resolution and frame rate my recording drops frame and jitters. a look at the information says its the input. the drive is fine, yet if its the input how come the streaming isn't doing it ? tried many different things like lowering the resolutions, matching the resoultion and frame rate the whole way though, nothing. but its JUST on recording?

any ideas?

What is your main project resolution and frame rate?

What is your recording resolution, frame rate and bitrate?

It is also always good to include your system details like CPU, amount of RAM, Hard Drive Type (SSD?), Graphics Card, and Video capture devices.

It could be one of those factors or something totally unrelated, but that will give other users a starting point to help you out.

It may be that your hard drive can't keep up with your recording settings for some reason.

Your system should be able to handle everything. I'm sure it is also fine but, what graphics card are you using?

I had issues with dropped frames at first with vMix, it turned out to be outdated firmware on my capture card (magewell xl-400hdmi). I don't have any experience with the Avermedia Card, but I did look into them in the past. That was a few years ago but I decided against them at the time due to some reviews online regarding compatibility with software like vMix.

If the card is updated and installed correctly, the next biggest concern would be the speed/type of your recording drive, and how it is connected to the system.

Also, what is shown when you click the "i" icon next to the recording button. If you can take a screen shot of that window it will help a lot.

I've used Avermedia Game Broadcaster HD and DarkCrystal HD Capture SDK without issues.

Also, you mentioned an i7 CPU, but no model number. Is it a quad core or dual core?

As Cpilcher mentioned, what kind of hard drive is in your system? Is it an SSD?

I did have a recording issue with one of my laptops but after adding an SSD for vMix recording no more problems.

Sorry, the graphics cards ( there are 2 are: AMD Radeon HD 7800 and and AMD Radeon R7 200 ( its set to use the HD7800

the system info shows no frames dropped writing to drive and that the drive is fine. its a seagate runing 7800 rpm

Hmmm. vMix prefers Nvidia cards over AMD from what I understand. But there is more to it than that for sure.

If I was having these problems, I would shut down the system and try each card separately to see if one has better performance than the other. I don't have any personal experience with AMD cards, so all I will be good for is basic troubleshooting workflow to try to identify the problem.

Just out of curiosity are you recording to the same drive that vMix is installed and running on?

A good way to begin isolating the issue is to compare MP4 and Mpeg2 recordings. Do they stutter the same amount?

Just for grins reduce your bitrate to 8M and see what happens.

For my show I record 1080p/30 in MP4 at 8Mbps and the recording looks great. I concer with Chuck about the Nvidia. vMix is optimized to work with 750 and higher. I'm testing a i5 quad with a 960 and it is smooth as silk.

Maybe try with just 1 video card and 1 monitor connected. I run a GTX970 with 4 monitors connected to the same video card. I realize you may not be able to just purchase a whole new graphics card. But I would start small and add components one at a time to see what step causes the problems. The hunt for things like this take time and you need to keep track of things you have tried. Different combinations of components will start to give you an idea what is going on. Could be a bad RAM module or a bad Graphics Card (I purchased a PC with a bad graphics card off the shelf one time.)

Keep posting your results, you can track the problem down but it will take some time.

OK I fixed it !!!

Simply by upgrading form windows 7 to windows 10?? once I had win 10 upgrage installed there was no jitter, maybe a better version or better coding of the capture process? but that fixed the issue

but good to note though that it was a win7 vs a win10 issue.
