Hi!

I've countered a problem during recording a stream with NDI inputs. vMix crashes for 5-15secs and I'll got like 400-900 dropped frames. Without NDI inputs I don't counter problems like this.

Streamer Laptop specs:
Model: HP zBook G2
Processor: Intel I7-4710MQ CPU @ 2.5GHz
Installed memory (RAM) : 8 GB
GPU: Geforce Quadro K1100M

Recording setup:
1. HP zBook G2
2. Sony camera
3. Blackmagic Ultrastudio USB or Blackmagic Mini Recorder (Thunderbolt)
4. (optional) USB3 cfast2.0 reader with cfast2.0 card for recording (optional)

Recording settings in vMix:
1. FFMPEG
2. Size: 1920x1080
3. Frame Rate: PAL 25p
4. Codec: MPEG-2
5. Format: Transport Stream (.ts)
6. Video Quality: 25M
7. Audio Quality: 192k
8. New file every 5 minutes

Hi,

Check the CPU usage. What is likely happening is the CPU is close to its limit and starting the recording
pushes everything to the limit.

Total system CPU usage while recording should always be kept under 70%

CPU usage while recording is under 50% and vMix cpu usage is somewhere 20-30%. And render time is under 10.

You might try reducing some of your specifications to see if it is indeed a CPU issue. Try a lower video resolution. Try a different recording format or lower video quality. Monitor your individual CPU cores to make sure one core is not maxxing out. Monitor your RAM usage.

Just some suggestions.

Hello. Just tested recording with two different video bitrates. With 10mbps I still got 1 dropped frame and I got few screenshots of CPU, RAM, ethernet etc LOGS. With 10mbps bitrate all my 8 cores are under 50% load. But when recording 25mbps few cores are ~+50% load and peaking to ~80%.

Thank you for all answers. Is it possible for future that vMix adds more specific cpu/ram/gpu/ethernet load logs to interface? It would be great thing to see!

Remember folks, Don't load your streamingmachine for fun. If you are just using NDI for powerpoints etc, cut FPS down to 5 for example = CPU load -20%

Unless that PowerPoint includes embedded video and transitions.

I've noticed a few presenters are getting quite creative in their PowerPoint presentations as the feature count within the software itself increases.

I've been caught twice now by running at a low frame rate for the input, and then you see embedded video or the guy has set up transitions between slides. Now I always run the highest frame rate I can, regardless...
