I think you are over thinking them just a little ,why can't you just put a return option in the shortcut that u are using ? That sends out a midi signal? ,,like any daw that uses ext midi controllers? ,I need them to hopefully send names of inputs and what inputs are in preview and program,as well as overlays, for my iPad remote......I haven't tried replay out yet but I hope u fixed the replay selected event yet......nice thou....getting there

I'm not sure what your point - Directly trigger something when a shortcut from a Midi controller is activated, that will send a signal back to the Midi controller?
I think the current setup is very fine, where Activators is independent from shortcuts. This enables a custom button to light up, even if the button is not used as a shortcut.

You can pull data of which inputs is in preview / program from the webcontroller, you don't need to use activators for this purpose.

In my dealings with MIDI controllers, they don't always use the same "address" for the LED as for the actual control. Of course that makes it very difficult to find the correct address as well. I would still like to see a manual option, where you can add the "Address" and Value directly. and then assign a representative color from a color picker.

And I would like to see the Mackie controller as a midi controller,it has faders and a jog wheel and many buttons....the select buttons can be inputs.....just a thought,,,,but my iPad remote will benefit from these activators
