Tomorrow I am filming a seminar and will run a PowerPoint from a laptop via a 4G dongle to my PC that has Vmix. The laptop will obviously have the Desktop Capture patch installed in order for this to work.
Distance from laptop to Vmix PC will be about 10 meters.
I have only ever done this once and it worked fine giving me nice clean PowerPoint slides to cut to but I did run into trouble once when it crashed and I never worked out why.
Could it be that the person operating the laptop tried to play a video or possibly went to YouTube to check out our live stream and that caused the crash?
Thanks
Martin

Today Desktop Capture failed miserably (it worked intermitantly) and I now have to insert 94 slides in post production.
I have had it working before but today for some reason not so good.
I got it working once but when a video was played it crashed the NDI input into Vmix - Seems playing a video over the 4G wireless is not good.
What I want to do is to be able to get 720 50P from a laptop into Vmix. Ideally over the 4G wireless as sometimes the laptop is up at a lecturn.
Also today there were 4 people speaking and when the 2nd person person spoke I lost the PowerPoint. Maybe they opened a new PowerPoint presentation and maybe this means I should have refreshed the Desktop Capture App on the laptop? Not possible from where I was being 10 metres away.
Another issue was when the video did work for a short time via NDI, it looked the wrong ratio. I think this may have been because the AV guy had resized the video for the big screen.
All this was done on the fly and admittedly I should not be testing this on a live shoot. I do remember seeing 3 possible NDI options and maybe wasn't selecting the correct one? I will fire up my lappy and do some tests in a not so heated situation!
One option I thought was to a HDMI > SDI converter so HDI out of Lappy then SDI into Vmix but I have tried that and it won't work. If it meant running a cable for a stable input then so be it.
Better than a re edit like I am now faced with.

Hi Martin,
You do need to either connect the computers via gigabit ethernet or purchase a good WiFi 802.11ac router as the 4G device is not going to be fast enough.
This should solve the problems which seem like the result of an unreliable wireless connection.

We generally use a HDMI to SDI converter. You need to make sure that the computer is making a known video resolution, 1080, 720.
As a backup you could get the powerpoint on your vmix machine and do it manually if needed. No PP transition effects but the vMix transitions are available.
Is the laptop a PC or Apple ?

Hi Peter I run a PC and yes I did think of doing the PowerPoints manually as a back up. Good suggestion. I have ordered a VGA to HDMI converter and its a cheapy to get me through next Monday as the output coming from the PC the client is using is only VGA http://www.auselectronic...i-upscaler-converter~243Plan will be to go from this device then into a HDMI>SDI converter. Bit of mucking around but it should work. The device arrives tomorrow. I have also looked into a more expensive option and this one does VGA/HDMI to SDI conversion. This way it can handle both possibilities (VGA or HDMI) and its all in the one unit. https://www.bhphotovideo..._hdmi_vga_to_3g_sdi.htmlWhat brand of converter are you using? Thanks Martin
