After experiencing too many troubles with usb soundcards, I would like to explore options to have a good internal pcie soundcard.
I've experienced huge sample drops on my 2i2 cards, as well as on many others, even with a yamaha mixer over usb.
I don't trust the technology anymore, so i would really like to go for something which is solid.
I used to have a emu 0404 internal soundcard with analog inputs and breakout cables for xlr many years ago, but it looks like there are no more cheap reliable alternatives on the market via pcie, unless i overlook something?
I would like to have an internal soundcard with 2 xlr or big jack inputs, which is built to last and reliable. If it has a big headphone jack with volume control it would even be better, eventually via an external box. Any suggestions?

RME produce a couple as do Digigram.
LN14775 & LN28140 have xlr ins and out on breakout cables. They start at around 250gbp

Hmmz, I just checked some reviews, and the price difference appears to be mainly on the shielding of the pcie card: it might produce some ugly noises when the video card is being used, by picking up interference. It's those little noises you sometimes hear when you move the mouse or open or close a window.
I'm now really trying to debug the usb soundcards, or to find an affordable internal soundcard which is properly shielded and has all the i/o i need.
Oh I miss a pci port so much, would put back my beloved EMU 0404 immediatly if I could :)
Anyone ever experienced dropouts with a firewire or thunderbolt soundcard yet?
