When there's lots of audio sources it can be a hunt to find the next source on preview fader or to adjust the fader that's active. If these could be colour coded in the audio mixer and these highlights follow Pgm/Output or Pvw. The colours would be the same as the user has defined. Other sources contributing to the mix from overlay or multiview could be coded in a third colour but that's secondary. The next stage could be the option of a `short' version of the audio mixer in the main window saving valuable real estate. With only two faders that once again follow Pgm / Pvw giving access to these parameters at a fixed screen location. You can't really do a cross fade with a mouse so having this preview orientated would make access to what's next to check and adjust the setup very quick and easy.

                Peter,
In you colored example, the colors used are red and yellow. Are those the colors of your Preview and Output windows? Or are you suggesting a different color scheme?

                Hi,
The colours are the same as the user's Output / Pv colours. As you get older the labels aren't as easy to read and the short mixer would fit nicely on a laptop screen.

                + 1
  @ Peter B
In principal, I am in agreement on the colour coding of the Audio Mixer Inputs, my issue, however, is how would this look/work with more complex audio set-ups? I am typically less worried about my "Preview" audio and more concerned about "Open" mics and/or background music tracks that may need to be quickly identified and faded out.

Would be nice to be able to group inputs by different types...
eg. Mic inputs, camera inputs, media inputs, streams... etc...
and also have output and inputs separated vertically.
Top row as output, lower rows input...

+1. Suggested some type of coloring option for audio sources similar to those found in audio editors like Adobe Audition, etc. with more than 20-30 of these in a large production session, this would be a HUGE improvement.

                Ice,
In that case other contributing sources are flagged in a third colour.
I generally have an upstream mic mix coming from a Behringer XR18 on stage and embedded into a sdi camera via it's line inputs.
This is primarily about being able to quickly identify a source by selecting it on Pvw.
  Jim,
The highlight colour could follow the category colour with the exception of Pgm / Pvw that follows the user setup colours. The user would need to differentiate these from category colours, or white for PGM, grey/bright yellow for PV, or only the text colour changes.
Inputs in different categories could then be `VCA' style ganged together giving soft sub mixes.

Can we at least get color coding on the LABEL of the audio mixer input, the black and white text is just lost in the sea of other black and white text.
Cog and then type a 15char category would be nice too, to organize all those audio inputs. (like how outputs and inputs has that blue label.)
Simple as click the cog and pick a color, during a show we want to quickly find and look at/modify specific audio inputs not hunt for them when you have 50 audio inputs. The hunting is highly annoying and events are never stress free.
  Thank you.
