Hi there,
We are about to plan our next streaming events and what we need is an SDI capture card that can be configured as Output aswell.

The idea is to produce a Livestream and at the same time have an output on the videowall of the sports venue. As the video wall configuration differs depending on the location we need to have the most flexible sdi output format (from SD to 1080p60) and therefore we were looking at the following:

- BMD Decklink Duo 2
or
- Magewell Pro Capture Quad SDI

Our PC is an
I7- 4790 3.6GHz
16 GG DDR3 RAM
Graphics GT730 2 GB

Thanks for any advice or comments

Magewell runs more smooth and stable but it is input only card.

just get a mini monitor from Blackmagic to use as output. It's cheap and reliable.

Oh, ok, didn't figure that out. Thank you

Cheap(er) yes, I agree too. What about the ability to use 2 IN/Outputs of the BMD Decklink DUO, or 3 IN 1 Out. In case of further development, would an Invest of 495$ rather then 145$ not be more reasonable. Besides the Output I need for the videowall, I would have 3 more SDI Inputs for cameras.

Saying that here's another question: How can it be that the Decklink Duo With 4 In OR Outputs can be almost half the price than the Magewell SDI Quad which has only Inputs...

There's something I don't see by now for sure...

mburel1980,

You should be aware of that using the External output/s adds a significant rendering time delay. Makes it unusuable in IMAG situations when lip sync is important. That is, sync between the live performers/speakers, audio, and what is shown on the video wall.

Since you most likely have a free VGA/HDMI/DVI output on your graphics card, why don't you Fullscreen to that instead? And convert the signal to SDI with an appropriate converter/scaler. A converter with a built in scaler would most likely be more flexible, than setting the resolution/frequency in Window's display settings. You will still get a slight delay, but bearable. If your PC is powerful enough you will get a slight improvement by enabling the Performance setting for "Low latency capture".

What converter/scaler do you think of?

Can it also upscale fps? e.g. Output is 720p25 but Video Wall Input needs 1024x768 @ 59.94

Maybe this sounds a bit weird but as you may have noticed I'm still a Newbie ;o)

Thank you anyway

Big Like for this forum (which is very reactive) and a Monster Like for vmix software ;o)

Using a external scaler will also cost you around 2 frames latency. Better use one of the outputs of the videocard and scale that using the windows output settings.
If the screen needs a resolution that is no broadcast standard, you cannot convert to SDI. Use dvi over fiber instead when that's the case and you need a long cable run to get there.
Of course it also depends on your venue. How big is it and where do you want everything to be in sync?

Everything to be in sync is not our main priority as we would like to put the livestream , if possible the clean feed, on the screen without audio. Live interviews that are streamed simultaneously to the net and the video wall are quite rare.

The screen is 5m x 3m so 15 squaremeters.
