It would be great if we could embed more then 2 channels on the outgoing sdi channel in external output. Since vmix supports multiple outputs via the audio mixer (master, A, B), this now requires a workaround with a soundcard and an expensive embedder.

I was also hoping that the MAB mixes could make use of the 16 embedded sdi channels.

Being able record a mic only mix, or clean feeds of the presenters as well as the final mix would be real useful in post. The Blackmagic Media Express app supports 16 channels, as well as NLEs and most recorders. SDI embedded audio is almost a free way of distributing multi channel digital audio in sync with the vid, plug the video in and it's done.

Other applications would be using one as a talkback channel I think BMD cameras use channel 16, IFB to the host, maybe transport of 5.1, put only the replays for floor foldback on 34 then convert sdi to HDMI and plug it into an amp then talk to 34 as a God box pa talkback channel, a timecode track or metadata for custom control. The problem with doing this in analogue is potentially crosstalk with the PGM mix and analogue cable runs.

I'd be happy to pay more, it could part of Vmix Pro. To partially implement this using external boxes would cost hundreds anyway. Vmix is so flexible it's worth mentioning these things.

Multi channel audio would be a serious plus! We're mostly running 4 channels of audio, and like mentioned above, it's a hassle to record that other pair on a separate device when VMIX is there anyway!

For vMix 18 we are looking at adding the following multi channel audio support:

1. Select the audio channels independently for Recording, Streaming and External Output (through AJA and Decklink cards)
2. Select from the following channel layouts:

Master (two channel main mix)
MasterA (four channels, Master + A)
MasterAB (six channels, Master + A + B)
A (two channel Bus A)
B (two channel BUs B)

3. If embedding in SDI, channel layout will start from channel 0 with unused channels level empty

Let me know if this will suit your requirements.

Martin

Hello Martin,

That would certainly nail it. Possibly the ability to map an input
directly to an sdi pair but what you propose would be more than
adequate.

Vmix, what can I say, there's nothing else like it.

thanks

Wow that's nice! I tried to find an entry level video mixer that could do this, and none offer this! It's one of these features that will make vmix a real broadcast tool that can be used in big productions.

Hi Martin,

additional to your thoughts on multichannel audio, could you please have a look into selecting audio channels from SDI inputs as well, like it´s working now for NDI it should work for capture cards as well.
Guess anybody who´s dealing with embedded audio needs more than just channel 1&2.

Cheers

Jens

This would be ideal as 4 analogue / 8 AES embedders are now afforable -
https://www.blackmagicde...ters/techspecs/W-CONM-04

This would allow using a camera's sdi to carry more audio inputs than the two available
on the camera making setup easier and the audio digital from the source.

My priority would still be to implement output embedding first.

Is it already possible to use 16 channels of audio? Would like to use channel 15&16 to incorporate it into our Blackmagic Ursa Mini productions, to use it for intercom purposes, if that's even possible in the way I imagine.

No, but you could use analogue and embed it -

Is it now possible to do that with the Vmix 23 update?

I also found this thread: https://forums.vmix.com/posts/t1...to-8-or-16-audios-on-SDI

and tried to use channel 15 and 16 of my Blackmagic Ursa Broadcast (talkback channels) but couldn't get them to work/find them in Vmix.

Am I doing something wrong or is it just still not possible in Vmix?

Sadly I also came across this "issue".
The UI supports these 16 channels, but that´s it.... they simply won´t output on the SDI. Everything above channel 8 is chopped of...

Would be great if the vMix Team can add this eight missing channels, as it´s very irritating that you can select them, but nothing happens.

As said before channel 15+16 is used by Blackmagic intercom, so it would be very helpfull to have this.

Can you confirm if the current version of vmix supports 8 audio channels with modern decklink cards (SDI 4K, Duo 2, etc.)?

It would be nice to get the 8 additional ones and be able to embed the 16 audio channels.

Thank you for confirmating in advance!

Got this info from Martin in January:
Hi,

vMix only supports a maximum of 8 audio channels from Decklink cards, sorry about that.

Kind Regards,

Martin
