Hi Martin,
I have upgraded to 8.0.56 (from .53) but noticed a serious sound delay using WDM video capture. There are no dropped frames of samples but the delay keeps running up.

I noticed the mention of the new update available and clicked that and installed the new version .56.

I restarted the capture several times and then delay is 0 but running up. The delay is showing up in the VMIX audio section under D and running up into 15 or 16 ms. I don't see this in the log.

Here is an example of the log:

1/7/2013 6:48:34 PM, Size: 1920x1080

1/7/2013 6:59:25 PM, Latency: 2

Is this something to do with the new version .58 before I was using 8.0.53

Can I revert back to .53 and where do I get that install?
Cheers
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Do you hear the audio delay or is it only in the final recording?
Could you upload a screenshot of the input properties window so I can see the specific audio values?
What is the capture device you are using?

8.0.0.56 is the latest version and automatically re-syncs the audio if the source is delayed.

Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,

I will send an screen capture later because I will have to set up the cam and all.

I can hear the delay is out of sinc with the output/input video previews.

When I check the information in the recording information settings I can see the delay of the audio device Vmix audio running up. But dropped frames and dropped samples doe not increase.

Is there a way I can revert beack to version 8.0.53 to check if this resolves the problem? Should I do something else or install the new version differently?

greetings, Stefan

If the delay can be heard through your headphones/speakers live then it don't worry about the Recording Information as that only relates to the recording.
Have you tried restarting the computer since the issue showed up?

You can download 8.0.0.53 below if you want to test it, however it seems unlikely the changes in .56 (which only affect recordings) would be causing the issue.

Hi martin,

Update: in the end I did not revert back to .53. Restarting and a few other tweaks had me on a track improving the system.

To recap, and for other users info:
I use two systems: a laptop version and a desktop - coputer version. Mainly I have a lot of issues on the laptop, to get all components in line.

The USB3.0 drivers of the NEC renessas USB3.0 chips in compination with the BM design intensity pro USB 3.0 input card is tricky. When it works though You have a simple professional and flexibel recording and mixing system. i use this to capture meetings in various places and settings and with minimal set-up time and equipment to ship around.

After the recent problems I upgraded the renessas drivers to version 2.1.39.0 (drivers available from station-drivers.com/page/renesas.htm).

And I have set my cam hdmi output from 1080i to 1080p (panasonic HDC-900SD). Aparently this gives a more stable input, but higher rendering time.

I did not notice any dropped frames anymore and latencey is increased I presume related to the rendering time.

Question for Martin: what exactly is the information behind the info in the virtual gen lock (camera input info) after LAST. It now is 40 40 40 40. (with 1080p input) What are these numbers and what is good and what is critical.

Thanks, this closes the issue for me: be aware of driver issues after updating: restart and ckeck all the components.

greetings,
STEFAN

I thought I would provide some background regarding the Virtual GenLock for future reference:

In professional video, a GenLock refers to a technology that synchronises multiple cameras to make sure
they send frames to the video mixer at the same time.

The "Virtual GenLock" feature in vMix emulates this functionality by compensating for the fact that cameras
and capture devices will often send frames to vMix at different times to each other and at irregular intervals.

The "Last" value you refer to is the milliseconds between each frame. For a 25p camera 40,40,40,40 is perfect.
Something like 60,20,60,20 is irregular but also perfectly normal as that is what the Virtual GenLock is there to fix.

So in reality the numbers listed there are nothing to worry about. They are only there is a reference for us when
video playback is not as smooth as it should be.

The Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 seems to have some audio delay issues under certain system configurations, but this is unrelated to GenLock feature.

Martin

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the fast reply: so the numbers is the time in ms between the last 4 frames. At 25p this is exactly 40 ms so 40 40 40 40 means a steady flow - i.o.w. perfect.

I would like to add, that when trying to set up a reliable work-flow these parameters are also handy for the end user (like me). I can monitor the different settings more closely and see if there are improvements in the setings.

For me I have the choise between output through HDMI of 1080i (that is the setting 1080i I presume 50i output) or 1080p (that would be 1080 25p) In Vmix this is one setting 1080 25p/50i but on the BM USB card settings (for use of the WDM) I have a choise either 25p (does not work !!) or 1080 50i as a default (which works).

Anyway: for a low-cost optimal price quality set-up I am figuring out it just means a lot of trial and error. Especially because of the weak link of the BM USB 3.0 capture card. Now after some time testing I notice black frames again which BM (Media express) notices as dropped frames but VMIX does not register as a dropped frame (I just caught one live and checked all the logs but no dropped frame reported by VMIX).

That one still is puzzeling me. I will check the set-up using the BM cards on my desktop computer system.

greetings
Stefan
