I'm already running 3 separate video streams to a Wowza server. Does VMix allow me to run an audio-only stream?

Also, does anyone have tips or suggestions for adding closed captioning into live video streams through VMix? I thought of the possibility of using Dragon Naturally Speaking to facilitate.

Yes, you can use vMix for audio-only streaming. I did one last month where the sanctioning body for the game charged a fee for live video (my client didn't want to pay that fee). Also the 4G was slow and inconsistent, so live video would have frustrated viewers.

I had a graphic with a live scoreboard incorporated into it.

Yeap during season we do a live Audio stream and I do graphics etc for stats and scoreboard.
If time permits I do a live video of just the commentators for pre-game and post game shows and switch to graphics during games.

So how is it done? I can't seem to figure it out. It needs to be strictly audio only.. no video or graphics at all.

Under Streaming Settings

Use Quality cog/gear.
Change the Video Bit Rate to 50
Encode Size 160 X 120
Audio Bit Rate 128 or 96

Check to make sure External Output/NDI
Output Size: 160 X 120

Also can be done with FMLE. Just don't check (enable) the video.

Some may use other settings, especially if a live scoreboard or some kind of graphic is to be displayed. However the above should work. You could also try setting the Video Bit Rate lower.

So I guess the real answer is that it is not really an 'Audio Only' stream (like a podcast)...
But rather a stream with minimal (static graphic) or no video feed with audio.

Yes, what I'm looking for is the VMix equivalent of deselecting the "video" option in FMLE rather than making the video tiny, but existent.

If you are using jwplayer anyways, what's the problem with sending out a still image on a minimal bandwidth with your audio in which listeners can read what they are listening to?

If you want audio only, also the infrastructure is different and I wonder why you would use vmix for that. For audio only you can look into shoutcast as the streaming server with winamp together with the shoutcast source dsp plugin, or icecast together with ices.

If you have the infrastructure now to stream video, I would not invest my time into making something new work. Just go with the still video.

I think the Original Post request is to have an option to send an "Audio Only" stream, in addition to the 3 regular streams (audio + video) being sent.
If your 'Output' already has fast motion video (such as a sporting event), dumbing down the bitrate does not necessarily achieve your goal of a smooth 'Audio Only' feed, and I am not sure if it is possible to use two different encoders simultaneously or not with vMix.

I appreciate everyone's help, I really do. I guess it is not possible for VMix to run an audio only stream like FMLE. It's a bit surprising that as feature-rich as this program is, it lacks something that FMLE is able to do.

I currently use 2 instances of FMLE to run audio-only streams of my weekly broadcast (128kbps and 24kpbs) for the benefit of those who only have internet through cell service and have low data rate plans. And, believe it or not, there are a few people out there still on dialup.

I can continue doing what I've been doing, but I was just hoping that VMix could run it all for simplicity's sake.

You could just NDI External2 to another pc/laptop and just stream the black screen with Audio. JWplayer can use the same streaming url for either video or just audio and
disable the screen of the JWplayer in the option tags from memory and just show the audio only controller. Been a while since I last used it.

Would there be any video bandwidth usage at all with such a setup? The goal is for end users who have limited data plans to be able to listen into the broadcast at 128kbps or 24kbps. Adding blank video only adds to the bandwidth without providing value.
