We are adding vMix to our facility, where we currently use TriCaster 8000 AE, so we're on a learning curve to understand everything on vMix.

In TC we have custom transitions setup for things like coming back from commercials, going to commercials, news intro graphic, etc. They're of varying length and cut points, and automatically cut from CAM 1 to CAM 4 for example.

It looks like vMix only supports 2 stingers. Sometimes we have to use 3 or so fairly rapidly on the fly. We have about 8 total that we use.

What would be the best way of accomplishing this with vMix, or is it not feasible? A script to load a particular stinger and switch from source A to source B, etc? Is there a way to record scripts (like recording macros in TC), or do they need to be manually constructed?

Appreciate any help...we just installed vMix on a beast of a machine and haven't really even fired it up for a real test drive yet...this is just one thing I know that will apparently present a challenge to our workflow.

Thanks!

You are correct that vMix only support two stingers. These are loaded into memory to speed up their use. Some users however have been able to create additional stingers by using a combination of video inputs and triggers to extend the number available. I am sure that someone will explain how this can be achieved. However a quick, if not perfect way to use additional stingers is to change the input. To do this click on the Gear icon on the bottom right corner of the stinger input. At the top right of the General Screen click on change. This will take you to the Stinger selection screen and here you can browse for the stinger you want. vMix will show a thumbnail of previously used stinger. Select the one you want and click OK. It will now load the stinger into memory and you are good to go. This will take a little bit of time, but it is workable.

You will also need to become familiar with the settings for the stingers. These can be found by clicking on the overlay button, bottom right of screen, and changing the overlay dropdown to stinger 1 or 2.
