I have been waiting for the release of this app ($49.95) that streams an iPhone or iPad camera via NDI.

I downloaded it an hour ago, and it looks good.

The app is pretty minimalistic, but seems to work well as input to vMix.
I tried it as a single input device using an iPhone 6 and then on an iPad 4
I then tried it with both iOS devices providing 2 inputs to vMix.
Very nice!
Instant portable, close focusing, low light capable, battery powered, high def, wireless, camera... In our pocket, streaming to vMix.

I have been using this with a preview of vMix 17 and it generally works well.
If I put the phone into standby mode, I have to shut down the app and restart it before continuing th connection or be able to select it as a source.

This app is a great start, but at the moment pretty rudimentary.

A couple of wish list items come to mind for future release:

- Ability to turn an iPhone's light on and off. Currently, if the light is on when you start up NDICamera, it gets turned off.

- Ability to turn off sending audio. No need to eat bandwidth of audio when not necessary

- Ability to select focus and exposure

- Ability to zoom

Hi Alan

Thanks for your comments about NDICam 1.0. The initial release has been a huge hit and has got plenty of people excited about NDI.

You will be delighted to hear that NDICam 1.1 has just been released, and it includes some of the features you had requested, including the ability to turn the light on and off, plus a touch-to-focus/expose control.

We will look into zooming in a future release, and consider the audio question.

Enjoy !

I have just done similar and downloaded NDICam AlanZ and with iPhone 6+ it worked fine with the quality/speed settings set to mid way. Then I added my iPad Air and the iPhone 6+ froze and exited the app. But first impressions it looks very promising, and the built in audio from the Apple devices are quite acceptable. Hope other vMix users will invest in the app so we can build a decent community of users on this forum! BTW what bandwidth is your network? I'm currently testing on a 100Mb network, but have just bought a Netgear Nighthawk X4S Router which is 1Gb and can offer both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz so maybe 'livepad' can comment if they think this should improve things? Will try to start some testing this evening ....

PopisDad,

I have tested it with an iPhone6 in a hotel room where I set up an Apple Airport Express, which only has a 100Mb feed and an 802.11n wireless, and it worked nicely.

I will generally be using it with an Airport Extreme, which is a gigabit network, with 802.11ac wireless, so performance is very nice.

Version 1.1 adds some nice features (flashlight and touch to focus/expose).

Hopefully they will consider some other camera related interface upgrades
- ability to set the focus (turn off automatic focus)
- ability to set the exposure (adjust and turn off automatic exposure)

I appreciate that the developer is participating in this forum, and is monitoring how well this app works with vMix

In general if the app exits, that most often indicates a network problem - basically the connection has got into trouble and iOS has aborted the app because it appeared to be stuck in a network transaction.

NDI needs the best part of 100mBit so really you want a faster than 100mBit WIFI network.

We are looking at ways to improve control of focus and exposure - v1.1 added touch-to-focus/expose along with the FlashLight. We did prototype focus-lock but that was not included in 1.1 - perhaps we will add that later.

Thanks Livepad. As no instructions came with the download of NDICam and there doesn't seem to be a help link in the app, would you be able to confirm the current functionality of the various buttons and icons atop the camera image? Most are self explanatory but I'm keen to get confirmation that the blue slider in the top right of the screen is used to turn the NDI on and off? Also when connected to vMix in their NDI screen I seem to get two screens from each connected device, one is the output from the iPhone selected camera, and the other is either blank or has an image from a previous connection. Is this correct? Or can it be explained by the appropriate NDICam or vMix forum members?

Version 1.2 of NDICam is waiting for approval in the App Store.

In addition to the improvements made in 1.1 we have added:
- Focus Lock
- Audio Enable/Disable
- User preference for NDI Source name on the Bonjour Network (to help with multiple NDICam setups)

NDICam 1.2 Should be available in a few days.

I appreciate the quick response to our feedback.
I think this will be a great tool to use with vMix.

Well, as luck would have it, NDICam version 1.2 rushed through the app store approval process much faster than usual and is now available:

New features:
Added Focus / Exposure Lock
Added switch to disable audio
Added settings window and better layout for 4x3 screens
Added preference to rename the NDI Source which appears on the network

Stay tuned.

You will note that all our releases so far are senders of NDI.

There is a whole set of NDI receiving stuff still to come.

Once the ARM version of the NDI libraries are released by NewTek, we will be adding a tab within our iOS app that will be able to import your multiview feed from your vMix session to both monitor and switch as a touch screen device. Stay tuned for more details. Looks like the NDICam is working well :)
