Hello,
what about GPUDirect technology from nvidia?
With Quadro cards and Blackmagic 4K boards it allows a near 0 latency SDI in/out.
Any chance that can be implemented in Vmix in the future?

Thank you

Stefano

Any reduction in latency would be most welcome. My primary need for this is when sending
a source or composite to in set projectors or monitors that are seen by the audience or cameras.

I thought I would add my 2c on this.

Low latency is very important to me when developing vMix and I constantly research every method available.
GPUDirect is no exception.
However, in my tests the method currently used by vMix is actually more efficient than GPUDirect and doesn't require a expensive Quadro card to use.

The extra latency above this is the result of needing to a) ensure smooth video and b) keep all cameras in sync with each other regardless of source.
Both these requirements require 2-3 frames of latency. 1-2 frames if you configure vMix in "low latency capture" mode under Settings -> Performance which requires a faster graphics card
and may be more prone to frame drops under heavy system load.

For the lowest latency capture card I would recommend from lowest to highest latency: AJA, Magewell, Blackmagic

Martin

Hi Martin,
thanks for your reply.
And what about Output SDI latency?
Because I can deal with 2-3 frames of latency of SDI in -> DVI out chain; but SDI in -> SDI out is not usable in a IMAG or Broadcast environment; that's why I was hoping that GPUDirect could help

Thank you

Stefano

In fact in IMAG I always use software based systems.
Normally PGM from switcher (HW) goes to Media servers like Pandora or Catalyst and on screens through DVI.
I'm used to 3-4 frames of delay that normally are compensated with delay on PA and/or the size of the venue, so I'm not looking for a 0 delay solution based on Vmix, but I would be happy to obtain the same amount of delay (or very close) for SDI outputs

Oh, and a AUX system too.... :-)

Stefano
