Hello Guys,

I wanted to show how we live streamed a DJI Phantom 3 drone with vMix :)
UserPostedImage

In this video, we review how to live stream drones, specifically the DJI Phantom 3, with broadcast effects using Epiphan and vMix together to live stream to YouTube Live. Everything in this video is actually being recorded with a Dell Laptop! How cool is that! Plus, we think it looks really professional and everything is streamed in 720p to YouTube Live.
vMix does a great job of taking in all of our sources including a the DJI Phantom 3 and our PTZOptics cameras both coming in USB 3.0. If you have any questions about how we integrate with Epiphan or vMix check out our integration videos page here: http://ptzoptics.com/vmix-integration/

Did you have any dropped frames?

We did the same from an Inspire 1 and had a bunch of trouble grabbing video from the 2nd controller.

What type of video output connections are on the remote control? How did you connect the other end of the SDI cable to the video feed from the drone?

Hi Guys,

We have done quite a few tests. The most important factor in getting a high definition signal is the distance between the drone and your remote controller. If the distance is fairly short there are very few dropped frames. We have also tested multiple drones in the same area and there could be a few dropped frames until the controller hop to the most appropriate wireless band.

Finally, we used a HDMI to USB 3.0 converter from Epiphan called the AV.IO. This was the best one we tested for low latency.

So to be clear, you have the DJI flight controller with the HDMI output hardware upgrade and you're getting the video feed off the controller and converting it to SDI to bring it into VMix?
