Last week I had an issue with preparing a shot for playback:
It was not possible to set an exact frame as start-frame because the scrolling of the video is not smooth but goes in steps.
I was able to get it approximate by looking at the time code and pressing the space button (configured as start/stop playback preview) in the "right moment. It seems to jump from second to second or so, but nothing in between.

This time it was also very clear that we need to be able to make exact in- and out-points on a selected file. Preferably saved in the metadata.....

Together with this I noticed to other issues:
There seemed to be a delay in action when pressing the space bar, enough to make it unclear if the playback has started or not.
Same with stopping the playback: it often overshoots.
This behavior is not seen in other programs for editing, like Edius Pro or Lightworks, also installed on this machine.

A third tip is a more clear (colorful) indication that preview is in playback or stopped.

I also discovered a good reason to go for the full setup with multirecorder: I had to show a mix of a live image and a pre-recorded take on the output, while recording the untouched live input simultaneously, to be used in a short edit a bit later.
It would be good to be able to set a custom name for the recorded file though.

Hi Rob,

There will be some improvements to the frame timing ability in vMix with the next release.
At the moment you can move the timecode in 10 second increments by clicking the slider and using the arrow keys on the keyboard.
10 seconds is not practical for a lot of users and will most likely be changed to 1 second increments for both keyboard and mouse dragging in the future.

For anything smaller than 1 second and for mark-in mark-out points I am considering the idea of double clicking the timecode to bring up a time editing window. What do you think?

Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,
The additional dialog ( double click or right click) for scrolling frame by frame and for in/out points might very well work.
Then you alse need those in/outpoints commants in the key-shortcuts so we can set this up as most editing programs do: i = in, o = out.
Scrolling with the mouse-wheel must be possible as it is often more accurate.
