Building system with Decklink Quad - need advice

It has been a terrible few days with computers. I am posting this hoping that somebody will have advice, suggestions or comments surrounding a system I am putting together for Vmix. This computer will ONLY run Vmix.

System Board - Gigabyte GA-X58A-VD3R
Processor - Intel i7 930
12 GB ram at 1066
725 watt PS
Graphics - Asus R9270 DC20C 2 GB
SSD main drive
1 TB 7200 RPM capture drive - but I think I am going to put in another SSD to capture to and use the 1TB for backup
W7 pro 64 bit
Blackmagic Decklink Quad

I am unable to tell what generation of Quad I have and don't know how to tell. My questions and concerns are as follows are as follows:
My system board is NOT on the guaranteed list of boards for the Quad. In your experience how particular is the Quad?
How can I tell if the Quad and the system board slots are compatible?
I have not been able to find a manual for the Quad, nor any really useful information about the install process on the Blackmagic site. Can anybody point me in the right direction?
I ask this following question due to the terrible results I had on another system. While installing a Blackmagic Intensity Pro, the firmware update started and the computer froze, blowing the card. I went and got another Intensity, band new, put it in the system, decided to install the software that came with the card, not the latest greatest. The install failed, and the card was never detected again. SO - do I install the latest software for the Quad when installing, or start with older version and upgrade?

I have posted these questions on the Blackmagic forum, with zero replies. I have to have this system working by Wednesday, so any help would be REALLY appreciated. People who have used the Quad, if you could tell me of your experience - this would be really appreciated.

I am running 2 of the DL Quads in my build with no issues. Here is my build list. I am running 4 SSD's in a Raid10 as apposed to the listed HDD drives. I have no experience with your board so can't help you there.

The DL Quads get hot so have plenty of fans. The case I have is great and keeps it cool.

I tried. I have a gig starting Wednesday and needed the system built. The plan is to buy the Quad 2, and use the Quad in another computer as a backup system. I know I'll be limited to 4 inputs with the back up, but better than being down fully.

I have installed the Quad successfully. It is not tested as I have to make cables, but the card and software installed with no issues and they are responding to the software...

Magewell are better than BM cards in many ways....
the latest cards are even better.... :)

I'll bite, more idiot proof and less fussy.

I have both so can compare and even though the Magewell usb is more expensive than my BM Mini Recorder Thunderbolt. It's just a joy to use where as the Mini Recorder the only positive thing I have to say about it, is it takes SDI and HDMI from the one unit.

As for Magewell. I have NEVER required their support EVER! BM however just blame my hardware and operating systems which well work very well with Magewell devices and it's kind of shit when you struggle on many computers from ASUS, Gigabyte, Intel and they blame hardware over and over.

That said BM may have improved. I stopped used their equipment about 2 years ago. Anyone want to buy some BM Equipment please PM me :) Will ship to Australia.

I have 4 of their products total and don't like any of them. Even the HDMI to SDI battery converter I find fussy. The first shuttle usb 3 device I had I never got working for more than a few minutes and then it just died.

Magewell Products and Aver Media products even work pretty well (being low budget of course so not as well as Magewell).

I don't care which device I use, I just want the buggers to work. Source resolution wise, Driver wise and yes for stability. I've spent so many hours attempt to fix BM products with newer drivers. Sometimes with small wins, but then failures later on via the next update or after running for 4 hours plus.

My events are usually 8 hours plus. One for 2.5 weeks. So maybe my demands are high, but you asked what I think.

Better: Yes, More Stable: Yes, Better Support: Never needed support from Magewell I think bad support from BM, Cheaper: NOPE.
