FYI, I swapped computers at church where I will be using this and installed the latest v8. However, when I run it I get the following error: "Audio Engine could not start. Please ensure a sound device has been installed.". I have a sound board, and video capture USB. but no speakers attached.
Also the error box has: Startup.AM_NEW element not found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070490)
Please help as soon as you can. Thanks.
BTW, I run this on my windows 8 computer at home, and it works perfectly. I will try plugging in some headphones and see if the error goes away.
thanks in advance for your help.

Finished my testing... If there are speakers or earphones plugged into the computer vMix 8 works fine. if there are no audio output devices plugged in, vMix errors on start up.

I just had this happen to. Why not just warn and then let VMIX start? Also how about suggesting in the dialog box to "check and insure an output is attached to the sound hardware; an output device is required"

Most users get confused with the error messages of vMix, we most of the time do not know what we need to do... Whereas most of those error mags are something so simple and straight forward to fix without disturbing Martin or waiting here in the forum for an answer.
I would suggest Martin re-write the error messages in a layman term, for all to understand. E.g. Like the above, vMix could have simply display :- "No audio device attached, please check your audio".... Etc...
Kind regards, Rottimmy

I would suggest downloading the latest audio drivers for Windows 8 for your computer as this will resolve the error without having to plug in headphones.
The error message is "Please ensure a sound device has been installed" because windows reports the same thing regardless of no sound card or no headphones plugged on some older drivers.
Regards,
Martin vMix

i had the same 'problem' starting with a new pc.
it just turned out to be a setting in the audio program that disables the audiodriver when nothing is plugged in. then vmix reports there is no audio installed. just open the audioprogram, go to settings and disable this setting.
greetings stefan
