Try not to flame me when you see how I made a poor man's t-bar controller in my recent YouTube video: But, it was fun! - Tom

Thanks for the videos Tom! I find though that it doesn't matter the position you use, as the fader toggles in each direction, even when you use 0 position, or 127 position.

ordered a korg mini controller after reading this post to play with, works like a charm (although the mini of course means it's fiddly with big hands)

Another option is the Behringer X-Touch Mini. I really like the size, options, and price. Here is a quick demo. Mike

i ordered a hercules dj controller as well, it was on sale. is a slightly bigger unit, sliders are a bit bigger too , but don't feel very solid
it does have a lot of buttons etc, so i might be using it
(jog dial for searching in previewed videofile would be great, but not a feature yet if i read correctly)

hi Tom,
what an inspirational video! so i bought a cheap midi controller and it works as you discribe.
but how do I do what I really want to use it for: pan the x of an input in a multi view, so I can virtually pan and follow a person.
this is what i did: copied the input to a virtual input. put that input in an overlay.
added a midi controller key like in your video, but set the set pan x to controll the virtual input.
but when i move the midi slider i get a black screen because the input disapears only to reapear at the far end left or right.
i want it to work like i control the pan x slider in the overlay control.
any ideas?
stefan
ps bought a simple dj tech djm 101 for about 18 euros include tax and shipping. just for the pan x control...

In the documentation I found this:
SetPanX Change current PanX value of Input.
0=centered, -2=100% to left, 2=100% to right
so I guess no error, but maybe the midi slider output should be translated to these input values.
how can we get a midi slider to work like the transition, Marttin?

I think I do the same with my midi controller and am successful (zoom and pan with sliders without issue, other than the overlay doesn't behave as I expected)
