Currently both the record button and the external button turn red when they are active. It would be great if they were different colours to each other. The reason is they are close geographically and it is possible to press the external button, it turns red and by mistake you think you are recording. (If you are in a hurry and not really paying much attention.) Sad to say I have done it twice.
