Is there a way to stream to vMix from software that broadcast such as D3DGear, xsplit, unreal, etc? I get how to stream to a recording service, I just don't know how to stream TO vMix...

(i have given up trying to VLC to broadcast my desktop, I can't get VLC to see VLC and the forums show problems with this feature going back to 2003, it seeems to have never worked for RTSP)

@MatthewEarley,
Short simplified answer is that vMix does not function as a RTMP streaming host, ie can't receive from a client (such as VLC or vMix) streaming to a server.
But, if you have access to the RTMP stream from a RTMP server/CDN yoo can add an Flash/RTMP input to get it.
Most public CDN:s (like Livestream/Ustream/etc) don't provide that though for various reasons.

Also, this issue has been discussed a lot of times in the vMix forum. It is always a good idea to search the Forum before asking ;)

Thanks.

Thank you Richard,

Your reply is short and easy to understand. I did go through the forums, and did see answers that were inline with yours, it's just that they can be surrounded by so much noise of people offering suggestions that are ethereal in the realm of possibilities.

Here is what I am trying to do now that I know your answer:

Streaming to vMix:

1. general question - what sources can I use from other computers to try this?
2. What can I use to stream the desktop to vMix (so I have options other than vMix capture)?
3. Can I stream an h.264 webcam to vMix?

Here is what I am trying to feed, any of these options in the drop down menu ;-)
1. As an alternative to vMix's desktop capture
2. I am looking for higher performance

Thank you for your help!

Matthew, the most reliable way is to go out HDMI from one latptop, capture that as an input using a hardware capture device and them into the target laptop. I do this every week to bring in stats and other content. If you have a thunderbolt enabled laptop you can, like me, use a PCI capture card in an external enclosure, or is you only have USB, a device like the Avermedia ExtremeCAp U3 (also like me). Note that for the HD you are after you will need a USB3 not USB2 device. The U3 is cost effective and reliable, and also fits into your kids game playing genre so they will be comfortable with it.
