Hello all,

I was curious for some suggestions on what hardware to use for building your own computer to run this software.

I have seen the technical specifications on the vMix main site, which shows:

- Core i7 Processors (4970k generally), or any with 3.5ghz or higher

- 200gb or higher SSD

- Anywhere from 8-16gb ddr3 memory

- Either an Nvidia gtx 750 or 960, depending on your camera setup.



But I would like to know if there are any home-made builds that anyone has done that they can share with me, as far as motherboards, add-on cards and peripherals, etc. I am trying to assist a friend in building a cheaper computer than the thousands of dollars needed for all-in-one systems on the actual vMix sales pages.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. He is planning on running 4 cameras to simultaneously stream / capture footage @720p. For this he has the BlackMagic Decklink 4K extreme cards to plug into the motherboard via pcie x4. He just wants to know of a cheaper system that can support these cards and his setup.

I am running an SD-SDI system on an old 2007 Dell T5400 (Quad Core Xeon 2.0Ghz), 4GB DDR2, 1TB Seagate Hybrid Dive, Decklink 2 x Decklink Duo's for 4 Channels of Capture, and a Decklink SDI for main output. Im driving 22 inputs, with Chroma Keys, and 5 layers of graphics. The important thing seems not to be the CPU speed (Which is only used for general house keeping and web stream encoding) but the graphics card. I can push encoding one (possibly 2) stream in h.264 on my current CPU, but would need to upgrade CPU's if I wanted to encode 3 streams. However if you don't need to encode for the web, then hey I'm convinced this software would have run on a Pentium 1 (Maybe not).

Just invest in the best Graphics Card you can buy (I am using an NVIDIA GFORCE 970 - which was about US $300 I think).
