Need to do a simple thing: during a performing art event I did need to

- play video from a laptop to a connected projector
- play also still images
- play audio files, at the same time or alone respect previous one
- ability to start/stop the defined sequence
- ability to manually step forward if needed respect the predefined sequence
- ability to fad out and fade in audio/video/images

I'm tring to test the whole on my laptop+external display setup and I did have difficulties to control what is displayed on the output.
I'm able to play the output on the external display, but did't understand how to step to next track, or to play automatically the playlist.

Maybe I'm tring to use a too powerful sw for a simple task, and need to use something else.

Sure, but as example how am I supposed to skip from current to next clip in fullscreen display?
Clicking in the clips put in the lower part of the screen only play them in the preview.

@ davide445

All of what you ask is possible but doing things 'manually' with the mouse can be tedious and time consuming in a 'Live' environment.
I would suggest setting up "Shortcuts" that will accomplish particular tasks with the press of a key.
This requires some extra time to set-up (and a bit of a learning curve to acquire) but is well worth the effort.

http://www.vmixhd.com/help15/

Look at "Settings", subcategory "Shortcuts" and access the 'Shortcut Function Reference' for a list of available functions.
This can also be looked at within vMix, go to "Settings" (upper right button)
Select "Shortcuts" from left menu of pop-up window
And then press "Add" button and "function" drop down.
Hopefully from there you can figure it out, but if not let me know and I'd be happy to help out.
I would look at 'NextItem' 'NextPicture' 'NextPlayListEntry' for your current request.

@IceStream
Problem is not to create a shortcut, but to be able to perform the correct task manually first.
Even reading the manual I'm not able to jump to next clip in full screen. Any step by step guide for ICT literate but vMix total beginners?
Also there is a way to play at the same time both a clip and a song?

@ davide445

Depending on exactly what you want to accomplish, it should be possible for the most part.
Manually doing the task is not complex.
Simply 'Right click' the input.
- Video 'List' will allow you to choose which file is active (Check mark appears before selected file)
You can 'jump' from one item to the next by clicking on it.
'Edit Items' will allow you additional options (Auto play next and also which to include in the list)
- 'Photos' list presents a 'SlideShow Settings' option where you can set up a timed slide show (0 seconds will hold a single image indefinitely)
From that 'Settings' window, you can manually select the image you want.

Setting up an 'automated' sequence of particular images with particular music is possible but probably not with the "List" or "Photos" inputs.
I would be inclined to add each item individually and use the "Triggers" feature to play particular music with specific images.

The best way to learn vMix is to play around with it.
Once you get the hang of it you will quickly realize how powerful it really is.

Thanks for your answer, will continue to play with it, the only reason I did ask here is I did have little time to setup all.

As requested there is any way to play video clip and audio song in a disconnected way, so to as example stop video and continue to play audio?

@ davide445

Short answer: YES

Long answer: Have a look at this somewhat related post

http://forums.vmix.com.a....aspx?g=posts&t=3539

I would also incorporate the "Triggers" feature as stated above if you are looking to have a particular audio track play for a particular image and start 'simultaneously'.
If you set the "Audio" to always on, once it starts playing it will stay on until you turn it off.
Hope that helps somewhat. I'm not 100% sure what you are trying to accomplish, but based on your descriptions it is certainly possible.
As stated earlier, there is a bit of a learning curve to it all, but well worth the time to play around with vMix and figure out ways to do neat stuff.

Ok one year later, same need, same question :)
Last time I finished to use a VJ app that done the job but was really not made for it.
This time I created an example of what I want to accomplish
So the idea is to be able to play video/images on the projector and on the same time being able to play audio, with the ability to play the next one at will, independently for video and audio
If you can resolve me this doubt and give me insight how to do it this will save me hours of work

Add your video and stills, either as a playlist or separate inputs. Click them once to place them into the preview, then press cut or other transition to play them live.

Add your audio sources. Click the 'Audio' button below the input to unmute them. Click the play button on the icon to play them.

Open your audio mixer and you can control audio from there also.

What you are asking are the essential basic functions of vMix. Unless I am missing something in what you are asking.
