Hi All,

Im new to the forum,Ive been mooching around the the site for a few months finding tips, tricks and solutions so thanks you for these, I am very grateful.

Ive recently purchased a copy of vMix 15 Hd,

I'm having a slight freeze if I put a colour at the start of recording which I would put a title on, when I change to a camera it needs a milisecond to settle then its fine. (as shown in the video)

This is a drum cover video!

When I go straight to camera all is great!

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

@ Banger

Is it just in the recording, or do you see this "Live" as well?
And do you see it every time you transition from "title screen" (color) to camera?

You may need to provide some more info about your specs and set-up to narrow down the issue and/or cause...
Can you monitor CPU performance in task manager to isolate whether it's CPU or GPU related?
There are a lot of variables at play, so you may have to provide a 're-creatable' scenario that consistently produces the 'glitch'.

Thanks for your reply,

Its only seen in the recording,
Yes it does it every time it goes from the title colour at the beginning, I don't use it in the middle but I will try it to see what it will do. I have got them to move in front of the cameras while the title colour is on so the camera is seeing movement!?.

CPU and GPU look ok?. CPU at its heaviest is 85%

Intel i7 920
12gb memory
ASUS 2 GB GeForce GTX 750 Ti PCIe Graphics Card
4 Logitech c920s
vMix15 Hd
Behringer audio mixer

Thanks for your help

Steve,

Did you record in MP4 format? if so take a look at my recent post regarding recording codecs it may give you an idea about your high CPU reading, See link below:

Thanks for this Len,

Yes i was recording in MP4 I changed to AVI and all was ok...
I was hoping to use MP4 without having to convert due to file size as my students use it for there course work!

Can I ask if you've recorded with vMix15 and put it back in as a input? If so what happened?

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

Okay I have just tried what you asked, I input each of the video files back in to vMix, below is the CPU usage of each video:

Test 1 recording MPEG-2 - size: 1920X1080, frame rate: PAL 50i, bit rate: 28Mbps, file format: TS.
playback in vmix = Max CPU 06%

Test 2 recording MP4 - size: 1920X1080, frame rate: PAL 50i, bit rate: 28Mbps.
playback in vmix = Max CPU 11%

Test 3 recording AVI - size: 1920X1080, frame rate: PAL 50i, bit rate: 28Mbps, Codec: GoPro CineForm Codec (x64) v9.0.5.
playback in vmix = Max CPU 08%

Test 4 recording AVI - size: 1920X1080, frame rate: PAL 50i, bit rate: 28Mbps, Codec: Magic YUV lossless video codec v 1.0 (64bit).
playback in vmix = Max CPU 08%

Test 5 recording AVI - size: 1920X1080, frame rate: PAL 50i, bit rate: 28Mbps, Codec: YUV 4:2:2 Uncompressed.
playback in vmix = Max CPU 4%

All videos played smoothly.

Steve,

Something else I have just noticed with your setup, you are using 4 Logitech C920s do you have them plugged into 4 USB3 ports? I have one of them cameras and I have noticed it does use quite a bit of CPU power when I use it in vMix. I don't use it anymore because of that problem. I use a JVC GY-HM100E camera and a GoPro Hero3+ black edition.

One other thing have you tried recording at a lower resolution like 720p also take the c920s down to 720.

About your drum kit, very nice sound, the snare has a lovely crack to it. On your Jazz bass drum where do your put the mic? when I used to do live mixing for bands back in the day I used to put the mic inside the bass drum and just off centre to one side so I could get a nice click instead of a boom.

I don't now if it is the recording but when you are hitting the cymbals there is a phasing sound that normally is when 2 or 3 mics are close to each other, I have a behringer x32 producer mixer and I can put each mic out of phase to get rid of that problem.

Where are you in the UK? I'm in London

Len.

Len you Genius!

I recorded at 720 to put back through and it worked liked a dream! Thank you
I can hopefully get my Percussion news & reviews channel up soon now.

All the cameras are on separate USB3 cards

I put the Bass drum mic just at the port hole near the bottom, I have 2 overheads for the cymbals which maybe a little close then!(sorry!;-) ) I'm no techie Ive always had someone around me to mic up... I'm learning it as I go along now!

I'm Gloucestershire, I did note you was in London. It would be good to see other set ups to see what I should be doing!

Steve

Hi Steve,

No problem, glad I could help.

Try putting the Bass drum mic about 2 inches from the drum skin and off centre that will give you better sound. I have played in many bands over the years and one of my drummers used to use a solid wood bass drum beater it made a more rocky sound compared to a leather beater making a softer thud.

Its hard to see in your videos where the cymbals mics are but they look about the right height from the cymbals, I don't think its the overheads coursing the phasing its the tom mics picking up the cymbals, if your mixer allows you to set one of the tom mics to out of phase try it and record a session and see if it makes a difference.

Len.
