I spent a few hours learning Blender to do this, and then about an hour to create it. If it's something you can use, then by all means use it. After setting the stage in blender, and getting the particles to flow just right, I rendered the video as a transparent PNG sequence. It was about 300 frames. I took these images into Sony Vegas pro, added them to the timeline, then set their properties to use alpha channel as Straight unmatted. I could then render as a Quicktime7 animation at 32bpp.
