My church currently uses targa images for transparency on most projects. Would it be possible to make targa's an available image option for overlays?

+50 This would give us new uses for our copies of Inscriber that we have around here :-).
Just change the .ini file to output .tga instead of .vii

In reality, Targa is legacy format these days. It's raison d'etre being uncompressed RGB with alpha channel. Truevision, originator of the Targa format, when nearly bankrupt was bought by Pinnacle for their Deko CGs. Pinnacle sold the Deko line Avid, who squandered it, as is their way. TIFF and PNG accomplish everything that Targa file once did. I'd argue that adding PSD support would be more generally useful, but it could be complicated. Wirecast dropped support for using PSD files in v6. It was part of a move away from using Quicktime libraries for file access. I've been using PNGs with vMix for VUC opening title sequences. I typically layer a PNG over an MOV. It's extremely fast & easy to convert TGAs into PNG. While I use Photoshop mostly, I also like Thumbs Plus. It can quickly batch convert an entire folder of whatever into PNG. If the source files have alpha channels so will the converted PNGs. I gather that ImageMagick does this also. Michael P.S. - I'm old. After graduating from college, the first job I had was with an AV company that was using Truevision Targa and Vista cards to create business graphics. Back then 1.44 MB floppies were awesome because they could hold one entire 720 x 486 pixel RGBA image!

mjgraves, I am older than you :-) I beta tested the Truevision Targa16 card.
But many broadcast systems still use TGA's and having to convert them is not hard but it is another step in the workflow that we could live without. Most switchers take TGA sequences for wipers or "stingers". So that is how we get them. It is still a very efficient uncompressed format in RLE mode.
We could re purpose some still useful Inscriber systems around here with TGA support.
