Not something I'd expect and we finally caught it in action.
If you change a clip from a shorter one to a longer one and you've got Mark In and/or Mark Out, it will put the marks into the new clip. It's possible going from longer to shorter if the marks are within the length of the new clip that is overwriting the old.
Once again, not something I'd expect to see happening. I do realize we can do a shortcut and SOP to always clear them but it's just a point of failure that really shouldn't be there (or at least if there was an option to select that functionality).
Or maybe I'm missing something here?
Thank you for addressing this.

This is not a bug and by design. When you select "Change" on an input, you are changing the source file/camera etc, all other settings are kept as this is the intended purpose of this feature.
If we were to start selectively changing what settings on an input are retained or not, it will get confusing fast, so this is why it works the way it does.

Understood, however if the clip changes, especially if it's of different length, one would expect that it WOULD clear those marks by default (unless somehow there might be a way to save the info in meta data in each clip).
I can totally agree that many aspects changing could get confusing however the mark in/out is one that that actually is not just needed but required in most use cases. That's why I'd suggest the option in the setup/change dialog up select that functionality to AVOID confusion.
Thanks,
