I deal with publicists who sit in on interviews and turn their cameras off during the interview.
I’m not entirely sure why they do it, but they do it. Possibly to avoid being distracting. Possibly to answer emails or play on their phones while convincing their boss they’re working since they’re sitting in on a client interview. No idea.
They turn their cameras back on at the end, or during the interview if they need to signal for last question, wrap up, X minute warning, or something else.
When they turn their cameras off, in order to avoid losing screen real estate to a black spot of nothingness, I switch my video to one where the guest fills the full space.
At the end, I switch back to the view of everyone.
This is how I’ve done it with vMix Calls and my workflow now for the Zoom input.
The problem, of course, is that, while I can easily manually change the view when they switch their camera off, I can’t turn it back when they switch it back on if they do so early, since, well, I can’t see it.
I don’t know if the Zoom SDK provides this information, but, if it does, I’d love to see a trigger similar to the “OnZoomActiveSpeaker” options.
