Hello everyone,

I just wanted to share my thoughts on using Zoom within vMix.

For the first time, I was able to host 16 guests simultaneously without any problems whatsoever. The sound and picture quality were excellent. The ability to share screens and ensure that guests could see comments from viewers (spotlight) was fantastic and made things much easier.

I added Zoom to a spare laptop, thereby not imposing any additional GPU or CPU load, which enabled me to manage guest approvals and removals as needed. Subsequently, I connected Zoom to vMix.

We then decided to invite viewers to join live on air to share their views/questions. This approach was significantly better, eliminating the 15-second delay experienced with text comments on Facebook and YouTube.

One challenge I encountered was the creation of a template for the guests. It was quite time-consuming to set up all the guests in one window, then create a single guest view with others in a line, plus incorporating text comments from vMix Social for guests who preferred not to join live.

It would have been helpful to have pre-made templates for this, but I suppose that's just me being a bit lazy, haha.

Nonetheless, going live was a lot of fun. My advice to everyone is to invest time in creating a template. Fortunately, my guests arrived an hour before the show to chat and have a laugh, which gave me enough time to create the screen overlays, etc.

A big thank you to Martin and the team for doing such a great job (TikTok next, please).

I was going to make a similar post but will just add to yours. I have been using vMix for the past 7 years but this was the first event using the new Zoom features. Some of this has already been mentioned but I wanted to put it all together for a better idea of the overall production.

We hosted a Zoom event with our company's account logged in on a separate laptop with a Zoom handler to notify the vMix Op when presenters have joined and to direct message presenters. vMix joined the call so that Waiting Room feature could be enabled.

8 Zoom inputs (Only had all 8 assigned one time with the current 4 person panel and the next 4 person panel queued up. Otherwise had 4-6 assigned inputs for most of the event.) Plus holding slates, VTs, and lower thirds.

The event had an average of 300 attendees with several different sessions throughout the day.

Here are some problems I encountered:

The biggest issue I faced is that at the end of each session the presenter would wrap up and introduce the next session. As soon as they did this a large volume of participants would drop off while new participants would join for the next session and vMix would become unresponsive. This led to a lot of dead air while I waited to cut to the next presenter or VT. The 27.0.0.64 update improved performance by reducing the number of notifications when a large number of participants join at once. It would be great if an option to disable Zoom notifications completely could be added. (Posted here: https://forums.vmix.com/...om-Notifications-Option)

Participant names do not update when they are changed in Zoom. One presenter changed their name after joining so I had to go through all participants in the Zoom Manager and pull in each possible name and find them through trial and error. We did send a direct message asking the original name but they weren’t monitoring the chat.

Every time a participant re-joins, their name gets added an additional time to the Participant Source list in the right-click menu. We had one participant with a poor connection and their name was listed about 40 times on the list, as well as multiples of many other participants.

The Participant Source list in the right-click menu was ordered by when they connected not alphabetically like in the Zoom Manager window. With the names appearing multiple times and in connection order it made it nearly impossible to use. (These last three issues posted here: https://forums.vmix.com/...puts---Participant-list)

We had vMix on a laptop running a parallel session. The return video feed to Zoom had background blur enabled and there was no way of disabling it. I uninstalled vMix, vMix Zoom Plugin, Zoom, and deleted all Zoom app data (thanks to this post https://forums.vmix.com/...tual-Background-problem) and it fixed the issue.

Here are some features I would like (already posted elsewhere):

Automatically changing input name to the assigned Zoom participant like vMix Call

Direct messaging

Video on/off and mute/unmute option in Zoom Manager

Just want to end with a big thank you to the vMix team for all the hard work and for listening to us users and continually improving an already great product!
