Thanks so much for sharing all this detailed information.
I am really happy as I have basically come up with the same system except the case.

Can I ask what you are doing for a monitor?
My issue is I really want portability. I have looked at the vimix go cases but they are really expensive to buy the case separately which so blows the budget big time. http://www.vmixhd.com/go/

What are you planning around transporting this system to locations and what monitor options are you considering?

Again, appreciate the amazing insight. I like this system a lot as my needs sound exactly the same as yours :)
I also did not consider raid so glad you brought that up :)

Great, thanks for the update. Can you take some photos of the complete setup in the pelican case. That would really helpful.
Thanks so much.

tnorell,
Thank you very much for your detailed and well explained build!
Looking forward to see how you go along using that high powered system.

You *might* find that your graphics card is somewhat underpowered compared to all other parts in your system, especially if you start using chroma key and/or multiple monitors in full HD. Just keep an eye on vMix's "rendering time" indicator.

Have fun!

I would be really interested in knowing what make/model of monitor as well.

RenPro, did you have a question/comment? All I see is the quote of what I wrote.

again thanks for sharing your experience!
And I am really happy for you that it has worked out so well.
Regarding the mixer issues, did you try with Window's USB driver, and/or Yamaha's?

On a side note, the CPU usage reported by vMix is vMix's use only, not over all use (eg streamer, video players, etc). So, to get a real figure monitor with something else if you feel you need (you probably are on a very safe side).

GPU: I read your earlier comment about GPU. I'm note sure what the most GPU intensive actions are, but so far it seems to be holding up pretty well. I'm not sure what are some of the tell tell signs that the GPU is overused. Would I see render times jump? Would the evidence be that in a break down of the stream? What should I keep an eye out for?

Also, at what render time limit should I start to get worried? is 10ms perfectly fine, but 30ms is terrible? I have no information to make and assessment.

Martin (and vMix documentation) says that if render time frequently goes above 20 ms it is time to worry.

For us this happens if we use GTX660 1920x1080 with croma key (and a few multiview inputs) and a fullscreen monitor. We had to reduce fullscreen to 1280x720 to stay below 20 ms (and got virtually no frame drops). Now going to see what a GTX760 can do for us...

I run 2 Decklink Quads in my PC build. They work like a champ. They run hot so I think you definitely need multiple fans. My case is a Corsair 500R and I have a good CPU cooler so I have no heat issues. I have 2 decklink Minis in a backup PC and those are a dandy too! Good luck!

@ tnorrell

Just curious to know who takes 'returns' on electronic components?
Or did you not even install and test it???
I'm not a big fan of the 'limitations' of the BMD products, the price points are attractive, but somehow you are tied to working within 'their' parameters and subsequently semi-forced to use 'their' products...
