Hi

So i was wondering about how everybody runs external ad-ons.

Im running a live-sports livestream, and I use Companion, UTC and TallyMA tally lights.

I am running these applications on the vMix machine itself, but I was wondering if it would be an advantage to run them on a different server on the network?

Would I save CPU/risk or would I just ad unnecessary complexity and delays to the system?

So what do you do?

Hello again ChatGPT (I really wish people would stop copy/pasting from it for this forum).

Where you run your supporting functions is really going to depend on your scale.

If you have 2 cameras and maybe a graphic or 2 you're most likely not going to run into performance issues. vMix tends to be used by setups where it's a major workhorse and does nearly everything (just look around the forums at the feature requests people ask for).

If you're running a larger setup there's a chance you may already have your down policy of "every piece of equipment does one thing and one thing only". This is more common in professional setups where you don't want the stability of everything depending on one system.

For example, if Companion only runs vMix commands then it doesn't matter if they reboot together. If Companion does stuff outside vMix you may want to run it elsewhere so that it's still available even if you have to reboot your vMix machine.
